As classic cars go you can’t get much cooler than the 1966 Batmobile, in which Batman & Robin patrolled the streets and alleyways of Gotham City.
The car was based on a Ford concept car called the Lincoln Futura, built just over a decade earlier in 1955. George Barris and his company were responsible for modifying the Lincoln Futura into the now iconic Batmobile!
Another classic car that George Barris helped create was the Koach from The Munsters. If you remember this from either the original aired show or the reruns and would love to see this in LEGO form too you can help support the LEGO Ideas submission here, created by a couple of friends of mine, CabbageFaceBricks & Boom Brickz!
Getting back to the review at hand I’ll run through whats included, the build and of the course the Minifigures – enjoy!
The build:
One of the first things you notice about the LEGO Batman Classic TV Series Batmobile (76188) set is the box and I must say the artwork is done really well and definitely gives it shelf presence, you immediately notice it when pursuing the LEGO Store.
I love the inclusion of the old Batman logo on the bottom-left of the box, just another confirmation that this is truly a classic vehicle and set!
Open the box and slide out the contents, there are three numbered bags, small sticker sheet, and instruction manual.
The manual features the same artwork as the box but slightly more compact.
Bag one has us fully construct the plinth on which the car conveniently rests, you also apply the first sticker here too on the 8×10 cheese wedge tile, getting this straight takes multiple attempts.
The sticker runs through a few details about the real-life vehicle including the length, 18ft 9in, max speed, 350mph, and more importantly the fuel type, Batfuel!
You also make a start on the car itself, making the base and a portion of the sides which also have a couple of smaller Classic Batman logo stickers.
As usual with a lot of LEGO sets the inner parts used are or cheaper, brighter colours used as fillers, in this case Red and similar colours seemed a very apt choice.
Two chair backs and a steering wheel are added and you start to see a faint shape emerging, but we haven’t finished yet, still bags two & three to go!
With bag two you focus on the vehicle adding both the front and rear ends, these add the unique and now iconic curves that we associate with this classic car.
The interior boasts two dashboard panels each with a different stickers, one is a Monitor and the other is for firing the Rockets.
The front has a grille that is set back and overshadowed by the narrow lip-like shape. While the back has the thruster that every Batmobile has was indeed influenced by this very design!
Two small stickers either side of the thruster represent the emergency parachute packs, although you wouldn’t really get that by looking at them, a quick Google search helped me discover exactly what they were.
The angles of the rear are amazing and really add to that whole sci-fi comic book look!
Bag three obviously finishes of everything and we see the final classic Batmobile in all its glory.
The angles, the curves, the individual windscreens, the red light on top, the weapons, the exhausts, the bat-phone, and even the bat logo hobcaps – it’s such a coll looking car and one I’m so happy to have in my collection!
I particularly like the red that runs through it from the front to the back, and continuing along the top of the ‘wings’.
It’s not really shown or even mentioned on the box but there is a slight modification you can do to hide the stud shooters that protrude from the bonnet. At the back of the instruction manual you’ll find out what the extra pieces are for once you’ve finished the set.
I personally can’t stand stud shooters so was very happy to see the mod to hide them, well done LEGO!
The Minifigures:
I’ll start off by saying that it is absolutely amazing to finally have a Classic Batman Minifigure that doesn’t cost a pretty penny!
Batman comes complete with a fabric Cape and a handful of Batarangs, along with printed torso, legs, and cowl.
Although almost identical to the Minifigure from the LEGO Batman Classic TV Series Batcave (76052) set, the one we get here has a somewhat lighter colour grey suit. This is totally fine with me and means that the Mini itself is exclusive and unique to this set.
His Cape is fabric, I really like this type of material, and so allows you to position it loosely how you want it without the fear of creasing. All capes should be made in this material and not the paper kind.
The Cowl is amazing and looks really good with the dark blue, black, and drawn on eyebrows and nose details. Definitely a Minifigure worth having and adding to the ever growing collection!
The Joker is just as good and features the outfit and overall look of Cesar Romero’s portrayal of the character in 1966.
Sporting the now iconic pink flamboyant suit with pinstripe trousers, green shirt and matching cravat, you’ll instantly recognise him anywhere. The white face paint and bright green hair is also a major giveaway and just looks terrifyingly good!
The design and print job is also fantastic on both Minifigures, being crisp and detailed as usual with LEGO’s high standards.
Along with Batman he comes with two faces depending on which mood he’s in, either creepily happy or, probably much worst, straight faced and unpredictable.
Overall the set and the Minifigures are stunning and well worth the RRP of £34.99. The whole thing consists of 345 pieces.
Having the classic 1966 Batmobile so readily available is great and saves us collectors a penny or two. It’s construction is straightforward with no real fiddly bits, apart from the stickers.
Each Minifigure represents their real World counterparts pretty well and are instantly recognisable. Designs, prints, and parts used are spot on, I couldn’t ask for anything more!

Thank you
Your Review is appreciated
As a Batman fan I love this set and should pick it up soon myself.
It looks great, it has a nostalgic feel and is a very playable toy/lego set! The minifigures are stunning!
Thanks again for this review (very good and detailed, great quality as always by The Brick Post!)

Thank you. It certainly is a great set and one to get sooner rather than later, enjoy the build when you pick this up!
Great review. Glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t like the stud shooters, they’re out of place on this build and it is great that LEGO provide the parts to swap them out. It’s also worth mentioning the detail of Cesar Romero’s painted over moustache as, he wouldn’t shave it off, so the make up is applied over it in the 60s TV show.
One of my favourite sets.
Thank you! Glad you agree with the stud shooters. I’ll have a look and play around with the feet see what works.
