After seeing the LEGO Brickbuster stand at last week’s San Diego Comic Con, it seemed very apt to share with you this particular idea submitted by Brazilian LEGO Fan!
They have recreated a Blockbuster Video store out of LEGO and it looks awesome. The iconic Blue & Yellow building captures the mid-80s, 90s and early 00s perfrcy and for many it was a place of wonder, excitement and of course convenience. Popping in and selecting a movie to watch used to take myself a good half an hour, probably even longer, you had to make the right choice after all.
Brazilian LEGO Fan has done the now dead brand justice and captured the overall look and feel of the building to a tee. Outside there is ample parking to the right, a lamp post, mailbox, fire hydrant and of course the Blockbuster sign complete with its wonky stand and giant ticket stub.
my project is something that goes back to my past, to my childhood, to my youth, because I used to go to Blockbuster every Friday to rent a movie and/or a game, the good old days. – Brazilian LEGO Fan
Around the back are the usually accessories, a dumpster and collection of random boxes, this all adds to the aesthetic of the build.
Inside is where the real magic happens and as I’m sure you remember the short but fully stocked shelves and refreshment stands. Again keeping true to the Blue & Yellow branding, Brazilian LEGO Fan has done a wonderful job of making the insides just as cool and busy as the outside. Every block of shelving is filled with video tapes, there are even category signs.
The counter area is chock with goodies too, including popcorn, drinks, a pay point and is that a video tape that forgot to get rewound? Be Kind, Rewind!
The store wouldn’t be complete without staff members, Brazilian LEGO Fan has included two. Both Minifigures are sporting the Blockbuster uniform, these would be amazing Minifigures for the collection especially with the printed logo on the torsos.
If/When LEGO Make this idea into a purchasable set, they printed a butt-load of Blockbuster VHS tapes rather than a large sticker sheet. These would be very cool and welcomed into anyone’s collection.
I won’t go into too much detail as I would like you to pop over to the official LEGO Ideas page and see for yourself. This idea is fantastic and one I’d happily purchase if made into a real LEGO set.
