LEGO Star Wars UCS Venator design secrets in Blocks magazine Issue 109

Begun, the Clone War has. Yoda may have said that 21 years ago, but now that the Venator has been given the LEGO Star Wars UCS treatment, this war is finally getting real. Designer Hans Burkhard Schlömer reveals how he designed the epic set in Blocks magazine Issue 109.

Issue 109 is available worldwide as part of a subscription or a single issue at blocksmag.com and will be in UK stores from November 2.

There are also great Halloween deals on Blocks magazine – be quick though, they expire soon:

  • If you take out a two-year print subscription, you’ll get a FREE exclusive minifigure from the Blocks collection and a FREE copy of 100 Incredible LEGO Builds!

Be quick to take advantage of these deals – offers end on November 2 at 9.00am.

THREE subscribers will win LEGO Icons 10325 Alpine Lodge – subscribe by December 6 to be in with a chance.

In Issue 109, Designer Hans Burkhard Schlömer talks about the epic task of delivering the biggest prequel-era model yet as part of the LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series (UCS). 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser required an entirely new approach and took all of Hans’s ingenuity to deliver a flagship worthy of the Republic.

How does a set end up as a boxed item on a shelf though? Hundreds of ideas are whittled down each year as the LEGO Group figures out what products and ranges to offer – and Blocks offers unique insight into how that unique and fascinating process works.

One of the absolutely show-stopping concepts that (eventually) made it to shelves this year is 42146 Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000 and it kicks off this month’s Reviews section. Technic fan or not, you need to read this review. Other sets under the spotlight this month include 10325 Alpine Lodge, 21343 Viking Village and 76262 Captain America’s Shield.

If you’re eagerly awaiting a box that might contain 10318 Concorde on Christmas day, then Blocks has the perfect alternative in the meantime. Our quick, two-pager instructions show how to build a mini version of the iconic airliner. If Pirates is more your speed, then you can build a micro Eldorado Fortress, while Castle fans can construct a working, minifigure-scale catapult.

Within the 116-page magazine you’ll also find out exactly how the LEGO Groups’ sustainability plans are going (without the sensationalism), learn what caused Trains to transition from 12V to 9V, count down the top 10 Christmas minifigures and much more.

Blocks is giving away LEGO Winter Village 10325 Alpine Lodge! To be entered into the prize draw and to get Blocks magazine delivered every month – ahead of the shops – visit www.blocksmag.com and check out the money-saving subscription deals available.

Everyone who subscribes to the print edition by December 6 will be in with a chance of winning (existing subscribers will automatically be entered into the prize draw).

Halloween deals will end on November 2 at 9.00am or while promotional stocks last.
