Official details:
Get cosy in your favourite armchair, because Issue 125 is taking you back to the simple time of Edward Elephant, Bonnie Bunny and all of their Fabuland friends. To mark the theme’s return in this year’s LEGO House exclusive, Blocks magazine is diving deep into the creation of the classic theme and learning how the designers brought it back in 40506 LEGO Fabuland Tribute.
Issue 125 is available worldwide now as part of a subscription or as a single issue at blocksmag.com and will be in UK stores from March 6.
Fabuland introduced storytelling to a LEGO theme like never before, with a huge amount of background work ensuring that the anthropomorphic animals all had unique personalities. Blocks goes deep into how the theme’s story was developed, with original documents from the 1970s.
Then Master Builder Stuart Harris and Senior Model Designer Markus Rollbühler explain how 40506 LEGO Fabuland Tribute was developed, from the first idea to the final refined design. This is illustrated with sketch models and early digital versions of the set – it’s a deep insight into LEGO design that fans rarely get to see.
Around the same time that Fabuland launched, the LEGO Group introduced the minifigure – in the final part of The Minifigure Story, Blocks reveals how the legs were crafted by carefully examining prototype characters.
If you love popping your minifigures into race cars, then you should definitely check out this month’s City reviews – you might have assumed Speed Champions is the place to go for Formula 1 sets, but the everyday theme has some surprises to offer. Star Wars, Marvel, DC and Disney also feature in this month’s Reviews section.
For those who can’t read about LEGO building without getting the urge to put some bricks together, there are instructions for a mini version of Malfoy Manor from Harry Potter, a modern recreation of Blacktron 1875 Meteor Monitor and a Grazer from the Horizon video games.
There’s plenty more besides in this month’s 116-page magazine, including a debate about tech in LEGO sets, whether you should invest in 10355 Blacktron Renegade, the best British LEGO sets and much, much more.
The Blocks Book of Retro LEGO Sets Volume II is also available now! It’s a wonderful look back at classic LEGO sets from the 1980s and 1990s, with spotlights on specific models, exclusive build instructions, interviews with people who worked at the LEGO Group back in the day and Q&As with talented builders inspired by the vintage themes.
