This week’s LEGO Ideas Feature is inspired by a hugely popular video game, one that I’ve actually played and enjoyed. Rocket League is a Football style game where souped up vehicles need to hit a ball into a goal, it can be incredibly frustrating but extremely rewarding at the same time, I personally fail far too much when playing it so tend to give up quicker, but the game is really fun.
Today’s feature is the Rocket League Playset by Sam67c. Their idea focuses on a selection of vehicles, a goal and a ball. The designs for the cars are excellent and have translated well into LEGO, each vehicle looks like their onscreen counterpart, with including the default blue car to the van and others.
With the recent step into video games, LEGO have produced many awesome sets based on Super Mario Bros., Sonic The Hedgehog, NES & Atari consoles and many others. I personally think that expanding on this theme is a must, not only because they’re cool and popular but they would bring in new fans from those games to the LEGO community.
The goal and ball, pictured below, look just like they do in the game. The curves, colours and details of the goal are great and make it look futuristic. The ball is equally as good and would have to be a unique moulded part and printed, definitely printed.
Each souped up vehicle has its own colour to differentiate them from the others, although in the video game you can customise them however you see fit. Maybe this could be added to the idea as an update at some point? My personal favourite from the selection below is the green truck, it looks bulky and cool, nothing can’t stand in it’s way. The purple futuristic looking buggy is also smart andooks as though it can defy gravity.
The playability this set would offer if it were to be chosen and produced by LEGO, would be epic. Setting up an area on the floor and teaming with a family member or friend to battle it out would be a must. Come on LEGO, we need this set!
We would like to wish Sam67c the best of luck in gaining the required 10k support, they are so close to the 1k milestone.
