This week’s LEGO Ideas feature is brought to you by @DistractedBuilder and their incredible Samurai Castle!
If the creators name sounds familiar to then you’d be right, the BrickLink Snack Shack (910030) was designed by him and it was an amazing little build. Today’s feature is completely different and themed around Samurai and takes inspiration from the classic LEGO theme.
The design looks absolutely stunning with the traditional sloped roofs, cobbled walk ways and dark-wood trees. The castle itself is completely modular and can be divided in 8 detailed sections. The small tower (Yagura) contains the blacksmith’s forge on the lower level, living quarters for the samurai on the upper floor and a small attic filled with valuables.
Samurai Castle is my tribute to Ninja, the 90’s LEGO Castle sub-theme. One of my favorite themes from my childhood – Distracted Builder
The keep (Tenshu) houses a kitchen, the archery range and a jail cell in the basement. The main entrance leads to the throne room, decorated with legendary samurai armor, the golden katana and a mural painting. The floor above has a balcony with stairs to the top level which includes a place for the daimyo to write messages, a birdcage for carrier pigeons and a small bonsai tree. The secret attic below the roof hides the samurai’s most valuable possession.
mla total of 8 Minifigures are included in the Samurai Castle: the daimyo, the lord of the castle, is accompanied by his 2 trusted samurai. There’s the princess and a blacksmith, who makes katanas of the highest quality. Around the castle you can also find the fisherman and his daughter, who sell the fresh catch at their market stall. The last minifigure is harder to spot: a sneaky ninja who’s out to steal the daimyo’s treasure.
Both the interior and exterior are highly detailed and bring the whole design & build together to make a professional looking set. The use of colours, angles and terrain would make this an interesting set to build, I personally would love to have the chance to construct something like this if/when LEGO produce it. Having missed out on the older themed LEGO range I feel this idea would fill that hole nicely and give the sense of yesteryear whilst building.
The set overall is great fun and one I’d purchase day one if given the chance. Come on LEGO, this needs to be produced! We would like to wish Distracted Builder the best of luck in promoting and gaining the required 10k supporters needed to get this product idea to the next stage.
Please, if you like the idea, support it using the official link below. Check out their other ideas too, they have a whole lot of good sets on offer.
