We’re heading back to 1994 now to the movie that inspired our next LEGO Ideas Feature, The Mask!
As always we focus on one LEGO Ideas submission each week, to shine a little spotlight on what we personally like here at The Brick Post. This week’s feature has been created by Mric76 and is entitled ‘Stanley Ipkiss’ Apartment‘.
Being a late 80s early 90s child I grew up watching some of the movies we call classics today. Gremlins, Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, and of course The Mask!
I even remember entering a fancy-dress competition dressed as the Masked man himself, so I really do have fond memories of this film in particular. To come across an idea like this is great and I knew it deserved my support instantly.
Mric76 has focused on the main characters apartment, which is where a lot of the iconic scenes take place. From stashing the stolen bank money to wearing the Mask for the first time.
This idea is made up of 1523 pieces and comes complete with three Minifigures. It’s really nice to see two The Mask characters, each with a different attire. The creator has choosen the two most iconic styles which we see in the original film, the bathrobe Stanley Ipkiss is wearing when he first trys on the Mask, and the bright yellow suit he’s known for!
Of course we also get Stanley Ipkiss, dressed in those ugly & unique Pyjamas that nearly give his whole game away.
Mric76 has done an amazing job designing each outfit and they all look spot on and instantly recognisable. The Mask’s face is also top notch and gives the whole character that devilishly cheeky style we know and love.
It wouldn’t be the same, or complete, if this character was left out, Milo!
Milo, Stanley Ipkiss’ pet Jack Russell, makes an appearance in what could well be our first ever Jack Russell LEGO element (depending on whether this set comes to fruition of course).
The main build, as I mentioned above, is Stanley Ipkiss’ apartment, and it’s chock full of detail and playability.
In this very intricate build some elements open, pop, and swivel. From the cupboard where The Mask hides his Bank job stash to the turning of furniture, it truly is a set with a lot to give!
If you cast your memory back to the scene when Stanley first puts on the Mask and the spinning and chaos that followed, well you can recreate that here and make the entire place a mess, swivel the chairs, throw the many newspapers and classic VHS tapes on the floor, basically go wild just like The Mask did.
The set also has part of the hallway, just outside the apartment, in which we see many cool Easter eggs referencing many of The Mask’s escapades. It even has his giant hammer and the clock he smashes to pieces.
Overall the whole idea is fantastic and if would make both fans of LEGO and the films happy. With other film & TV studios already produce by LEGO, Friends, The Big Bang Theory etc, this would sit proudly along them and not look at all out of place.
We wish Mric76 the best of luck in his dream and fingers crossed this set makes it and becomes a reality!
