This week’s MOC feature is from a friend of mine, Dave ‘The Brick Snapper‘ Penny!

He was inspired by members of the Southampton Heritage Photos group on Facebook, to recreate a slice of Southampton and its history – Westgate Street.

Southampton Westgate Street MOC

Using old photos and a bit of artistic licence, he has done a fantastic job in turning a local (to us) landmark into a well designed & built LEGO masterpiece!

As it stands now

So there’s just shy of a thousand bricks on this moc, it took probably close to 60 hrs to build over a few months, i’ve rebuilt it quite a few times.

I enjoy checking out this Facebook group and learning a hell of a lot from its members, thank you.

I’ve decided that I will build more sights from ye olde towne so stay tuned!

I particularly like Westgate Hall (to the left), with its picturesque exposed beams. He has the angles of the beams spot on and it all adds to the aesthetic of ye olde building.

Westgate Hall was once situated in St Michael’s Square when it was the town’s fish market and cloth hall. Dismantled in 1634, the timbers were then used to construct this beautiful building. It was then used as a store, warehouse and archaeological store before becoming a venue for conferences, concerts and wedding receptions.

Adding details, like the cart and tree, and populating it with villagers gives it a boost and really brings it alive!

With over 500 likes and almost 100 comments (at time of posting), he has truly done a great job, not only with the LEGO itself but for the History of Southampton, getting people talking about and revisiting parts of Southampton they may have forgotten.

We all look forward to your next project!
