After I discovered the quality and joy of building with alternate brands earlier this year, I’ve been looking around to source parts for MOCs. At first I was still a bit on the fence because alternate brands had a bad reputation. After reading a bit online I decided to give a couple a try with some small orders to see what I would get. Below I’ll give an overview of some of these experiences and give the pros and cons for each of them. None of these suppliers have sponsored any orders. BlueBrixx When ordering sets from BlueBrixx I occasionally […]

A few days ago we posted an introduction to D-Day themed sets by Polish brick brand COBI. Today we’ll have a look at the first of these sets, the LCVP (Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel) better know as the ‘Higgins Boat’. Getting this name after designer Andrew Higgins. Based in New Orleans, this boat was initially designed for the local timber industry having to deal with shallow swamps. The design was proposed to the US military leaders and was later comissioned for mass production. During WW2 the LCVP saw action during several operation, with Operation Overlord/ ‘D-Day’ being the most notable. […]

The 80th anniversary of D-Day and the invasion of Normandy is approaching fast. Because this is one of the most significant events of the 20th century, Polish brand COBI is commemorating this with a special range of building sets. In this blog we’ll be taking a look at the sets as an introduction. Some of these will also be reviewed in the near future.  Dedicated to one of the most pivotal moments of World War II – the epic Battle of Normandy, known as D-Day. Travel back in time and recreate the historical events of Operation Overlord, with COBI building […]

Today in our Rebrickable Feature, we don’t just focus on one single build. Instead we explore the builds from one Rebrickable creator. Contributor Xiaowang really has some stunning and also quite sizeable projects on Rebrickable. In total there are 103 contributions so far and we hope that after seeing a couple highlighted by us you’ll have a look over at their profile, the link is at the bottom of the feature! First of all there are a bunch of brick built sculptures. These range from 1100 to close to 17000 parts. Some of these are animals, some are based on […]

So here we go, my first time trying a different brand for brick building. I’ve seen some poorly executed interlocking brick manufacturers before and these didn’t appeal to me at all. But scrolling on the Blue Brixx website I saw so many sets that were exactly to my liking, I just had to give it a shot.  The Brand Blue Brixx is a German retailer selling various brick brands. These brands vary in system and this is indicated on the website with the graphic below.  Their focus is mainly on adult builders which is reflected in the variety of sets. […]

LEGO Ideas isn’t the only platform where creators share their designs. A great source is the Rebrickable platform. The big advantage of this platform is you can download the instructions right away. The other side of the coin is that it can be rather time consuming and expensive to source all the parts. This of course depends on the size of the build and availability of parts. We recently reviewed the ‘Alter Sesame Street’ by Just Create and last year the Goat Brickheadz by MonstarJDC. Rebrickable is an independent platform which means different rules apply. For example, religious and military […]

On Friday April 12th we discovered the unpleasant surprise of The Brick Post being blocked. The reason for this was our post on the Minions Banana Car. We’d like to clarify a few things on the matter and why we feel this is not right. First of all, we are not official RLFM (registered fan media). This means we have to get all our information from secondary sources like retailers. And because we don’t receive the official information, we often have to guess when embargo will be lifted on a new set. We are not a website that wants to […]

A lot of LEGO Ideas entries share the same basic concept. Their based around a show or movie, or remakes of classic sets or clearly inspireed by previous successful entries. So today I’d love to pick out a rare gem that doesn’t follow this concept. Beaver Dam Balance Game by Brickster0404 is really original and I’d imagine it would make a fun LEGO set as well. From just a set perspective or the building experience, this doesn’t look to be an advanced set. And to be honest, making a big advanced set is no guarantee that it is really good. […]

Today is World Autism Day. With the entire month of April focussed on awareness and acceptance towards autism. For LEGO this has been the perfect opportunity to launch new initiatives to support neurodivergent fans. The plans unveiled today mainly concern LEGO stores, LEGO house and the LEGO life magazine.
