Inside Issue 123
LEGO Adventurers captured the spirit of Indiana Jones in the brick before the company got into the licensing business. This month, Blocks reveals the Johnny Thunder video game that could have been, with a deep dive into an alternate version of LEGO Island 3 that never made it off the drawing board. Plus, there’s a look back at a classic set – 5988 The Temple of Anubis.
Daniel Konstanski, author of The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks, takes us inside the development of the original minifigure. Using his extensive knowledge of the company’s history, he demonstrates how early prototypes tested out different sizes and concepts, paving the way for the iconic character that has been around for more than 40 years.
Senior Model Designer Antica Bracanov joins Blocks to build a set and have a chat, discussing the journey she went on from AFOL to professional creative. She provides fascinating insights into the incredible sets she has worked on, including 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr, 10325 Alpine Lodge and 21330 Home Alone.
While waiting for the release of 10355 Blacktron Renegade, Space fans can get their fix with Blocks instructions for a modern reimagining of 6811 Pulsar Charger. Use the handy parts list to gather the bricks you need, then construct this updated version of a beloved M-Tron set.
As ever, the Blocks team has been building and assessing official models – Issue 123 includes reviews of 21353 The Botanical Garden, 21061 Notre-Dame de Paris, 42638 Castle Bed and Breakfast, imaginative DREAMZzz builds, Speed Champions cars and Star Wars sets.
That’s just a taste of what is inside month’s 116-page magazine, which also includes a look back at Skærbæk Fan Weekend 2024, amazing fan creations that capture winter in all its forms, an interview with the designers behind 10359 Fountain Garden and much, much more.
The Blocks Book of Retro LEGO Sets Volume II is also available now! It’s a wonderful look back at classic LEGO sets from the 1980s and 1990s, with spotlights on specific sets, exclusive build instructions, interviews with people who worked at the LEGO Group back in the day and Q&As with talented builders inspired by the vintage themes.
