Model Designer Kenyon Brady and Design Manager Ashwin Visser have taken fans back to Middle-earth in 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire, a set that focuses on the opening of the beloved trilogy. They reveal how they built a warm, cosy and inviting space that is in harmony with nature.
In the Create section, you can admire amazing fan builds inspired by Tolkien’s stories. Blocks is also providing step by step instructions for mini versions of large sets, so you can order some bricks and build desk-sized versions – including Star Wars 75409 Jango Fett’s Starship, NINJAGO 71832 Thunderfang Dragon of Chaos and Power Miners 8964 Titanium Command Rig.
The LEGO Group has an expansive partnership with Formula 1 this year and in the Reviews section, Blocks is checking out the new sets – including 10353 Williams Racing FW14B & Nigel Mansell and 10 new Speed Champions cars.
Those detailed sets might never have been though if an early 2000s initiative had panned out – Project Genesis was a plan for the LEGO Group to move away from the brick at a time when the company was in deep trouble. This deep dive reveals the extent to which the brick was at risk of being replaced.
Fortunately, the LEGO brick is more popular than ever before – but some children don’t have access to such luxury items. The Toy Project is a charity in London with two key goals; to provide children from all backgrounds with play and to reduce the number of toys going to landfill. Blocks pays a visit to the playroom to see how this is all being achieved.
Master Builder Didac Perez Soriano is this month’s Build & Chat interviewee, revealing what his unique role at LEGO House entails. He discusses his own specific journey from a fan builder to a professional brick creative, which led to unique projects including capturing the spirit of classic Fabuland illustrations, turning the fantastical spacecraft of children into a drone show and building a band made up of food items.
That’s just a taste of what’s in Blocks, the monthly magazine for LEGO fans, Issue 127. Within this 116-page magazine you’ll also find a build project that expands 60422 Seaside Harbour with Cargo Ship, top 10 troop transports, how building can help you through challenging times and much, much more.
The Blocks Book of Retro LEGO Sets Volume II is also available now! It’s a wonderful look back at classic LEGO sets from the 1980s and 1990s, with spotlights on specific models, exclusive build instructions, interviews with people who worked at the LEGO Group back in the day and Q&As with talented builders inspired by the vintage themes.
