Hi brick lovers! Brick McBricksworth here with a round-up of brand new sets coming soon from Polish brand COBI!

I’m no stranger to COBI and have been a fan of alternatives to LEGO for a number of years. I have bought, built and even sold COBI sets in the past and now time for a little rundown review of some of the sets that have caught my eye and coming in the next few months.

In the UK we can get our COBI from places like Bricktanks, Wonderland models or the Tank Museum. I have only ever personally bought from Bricktanks myself so can only comment on them. I have never had an issue with sets from Bricktanks as they have always arrived swiftly. I placed a few pre-orders myself last year for two versions of the Lancaster Bomber. Everything in this article today is either available to pre-order or soon will be.

The first set that caught my eye is the latest in the line of COBI planes, the Supermarine Spitfire Mk IXe. This is due for release in May and the price point is yet to be confirmed but it comprises of 352 pieces. With existing sets of this size at a price of £34.99-£39.99 it would be the assumption this would be around this price too.
This one isn’t in the usual green/brown standard camo, instead it’s in desert camo. This Spitfire is a variant of the legendary British fighter aircraft, emerged during World War II to counter the formidable German Focke-Wulf Fw 190. Having built one of the older Mk Spitfires from COBI and going off the look of that, this newer updated model will be sure to please!

The second set I like the look of is the Hawker Hurricane No.302 San RAF, which is due for release in March. Priced at around £39.99, this one comes in at 373 pieces. If you like your price per piece this works out at around 10.7p. Personally I don’t like price per piece ratios as you could have a set with 400 1×1 plates equivalent or a set with 200 2×4 bricks equivalent so it would be difficult to actually compare pricing on that for obvious reasons.

The scale on this one is 1:32 and has pad printed pieces. As all World War II plane enthusiasts know while the Spitfire had the fame and the prowess, the Hurricane was the backbone of the RAF during its time. It’s a must for any plane model lover, especially if you have missed out on earlier versions.

The third set I really like the look of is the Volkswagen Golf GTI (1976-1983). This one looks like it will be similar in size to a Creator car size from LEGO. The piece count here is 1,710 and priced around £119.99. Release is yet to be confirmed at the point of writing this but sometime in 2025.
This should be a firm favourite with the petrol head, just down to the sheer iconic car in question.
This model is shown to be very highly detailed in every aspect and has really stood out to me as usually I am more interested in the COBI Planes than anything else.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI, introduced in 1976, became an automotive icon, spearheading the hot hatch phenomenon.

The fourth set on my little list today is a really exciting one and takes me back to my childhood when I was obsessed with the world of Steam Trains, especially The Flying Scotsman. I hope that you would agree there aren’t many other trains you would think of at the top of the icon list than this!
This one is going to be a whopper of a model with a total of 2,700 pieces. I have seen a price point set around £199.99 so not cheap but looking at it will be worth every penny for the hardcore train fan.
Due for release in March, I am very tempted to make my pre-order as soon as it becomes available as I would kick myself if I missed this.

I don’t feel the need to give the history lesson on this one as I think just the prospect of a set this iconic with the amount of detail the pictures suggest is enough for this portion of a review.

Another set I feel needs a mention is the F-117 Lockheed Nighthawk stealth aircraft. I would say I like this one but newer planes aren’t on my ‘radar’. Comprising of 798 pieces and a 1:48 scale, I must say it does look smart. Again pre-orders open soon so if you’re interested in this set please do keep an eye on it, it’ll be popular Im sure. Price and availability are still unconfirmed but watch this space for more news on this and other sets listed above.

There are many more sets due for release soon and this has been my personal pick. What do you think of these sets and would you be tempted to try out COBI, if you haven’t already. Leave your comments below.

  1. Some great sets! And also a controversial take about the Hurricane lol. But the big question is: can we expect a Lancaster review at some point?
