Tubes not on bottom bricks, BTAS Batmobile and Ice Planet penguin mech in Blocks magazine Issue 117

Blocks, the monthly magazine for LEGO fans, is covering all aspects of the hobby in Issue 117 – the Batman: The Animated Series Batmobile is reviewed, there’s an exploration of the original SNOT bricks – ‘tubes not on bottom’ elements, instructions for a mech for the Ice Planet robot penguin and a look at incredible concept art for LEGO DREAMZzz Season 2.

Issue 117 is available worldwide as part of a subscription or a single issue at blocksmag.com now and will be in UK stores from July 4.

We’re giving away 10341 NASA Artemis Space Launch System! To be in with a chance of winning, take out a subscription before July 31, 2024. You’ll be entered into a new draw every month for the duration of your subscription!

You’ve heard of SNOT, but what is TNOT? Decades before sideways building bricks were introduced, the LEGO Group explored bricks with studs and tubes on the sides! Find out what was planned for this unique system of bricks that were very different to the SNOT bricks fans are used to building with today.

LEGO DREAMZzz is the most imaginative theme currently in the portfolio and new sets are on the way. See the concept art behind the new sets and second season of content as Design Director Cerim Manovi explains how the team came up with a whole new year of storytelling to keep everyone engaged in this unique world.

In the Reviews section you can find the Blocks take on 76274 Batman with the Batmobile vs. Harley Quinn and Mr. Freeze from Batman: The Animated Series, 10330 McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna, Technic sets, the latest Fortnite expansions, 60434 Space Base and Rocket Launchpad, 42604 Heartlake City Shopping Mall and more.

Exclusive build instructions this month show how to build a mech for the robot penguin from Collectible Minifigures – that little gizmo stands no chance in the harsh Ice Planet environment, so this machine will help it get around. You can also follow steps to build the classic 1682 Space Shuttle Launch set and a jungle ruin for the refreshed Johnny Thunder minifigure to explore.

Continuing the nostalgic vibe, Retro looks back at 7103 Jedi Duel – the set that introduced Yoda back in 2002, along with LEGO Island and Lion Knights.

That’s just a taste of this month’s magazine, which also includes the conclusion of the Modulex story, a debate about whether LEGO sets are expensive, the top 10 real-life objects built from bricks and much, much more.
