We recently had the opportunity to install Briksmax lights into the LEGO Fortnite Battle Bus (77073) set, read how we got on below and the final result!

A big thank you to Briksmax for sending up this light kit, we’ve dabbled in lights before and have had very mixed emotions about them, but Briksmax have proved themselves time and time again thanks to their physical instructions and individually labelled bags.

The Box & Contents:

The box has a solid, premium, feel to it and opens up from the front, revealing the contents. Inside you’ll find quite a few branded paper bags, an instruction manual and a user guide. When taking out and sorting the labelled bags I thought to myself ‘why are there so many bags for a relatively small set?‘, but it turned out that the cables and other elements were individually bagged to make it easier in the long run.

The manual is laid out in a very straightforward and easy to follow way which is needed when dealing with any type of light kit. There were a few steps that needed extra detailing as to where to place the cables, I felt lost as to how to bundle up and hide the majority them inside the Battle Bus itself. But for the most part the instructions helped immensely.

The Installation:

When it came to installing the lights it seemed to take longer than expected, this was due to not wanting to damage any of the LEDs and cables, taking my time and handling them carefully is always the best way to go about it.

Each page, or section, of the manual, highlights the parts needed to remove in order to place the cables, the first one has you dismantle a section of the roof and balloon. Large chunks are carefully lifted off, lights inserted into the hollow spaces of the bricks/studs and then all out back together. The cables then run down the side and under a 1×2 blue slope, being approximately a 1mm thick (or less) cable, the thinner LEGO elements do stick up slightly and leaves a gap, which is a annoying to see but necessary.

The LEDs are coloured too, matching the element they go behind/inside. For instance the light inside the balloons fire is a white-blue colour, the bulbs that are positioned inside the 1×1 round tiles are orange & red and the strip underneath the Battle Bus is blue. There were a couple of the LEDs that didn’t quite fit or needed to be positioned just right in order for the stud/tile to sit properly. Without applying to much pressure and breaking the cable, it was difficult to get something so tiny to stay in place whilst lining up, especially with my big fingers.

Each light does it’s job well and we positioned in key areas that need the most light. Inside the Battle Bus are two hefty blubs, outside the head & tail shine bright, the balloons fire it lit and perhaps the best is saved for last. There is a bright blue strip light underneath the Battle Bus that not only lights up the undercarriage but also the ground below it. When flying over my City, the blue covering it gives Gregsville is gorgeous, especially when you turn the mains lights off.

When seeing it finished it makes the struggles of installing it disappear, not that it was a total pain to fit, just at certain points it felt ‘impossible‘.

The Result:

As you can see from the photos the set looks absolutely stunning lit up. Forget about the fiddly installation and focus on the final product and you won’t be disappointed. Having mine suspended from the ceiling in my garage I had to pop the battery box inside the Battle Bus‘ body, there is more than enough space to ‘hide‘ it even with the amount of wires inside it. My favourite part of the set now is the underbelly, with the blue light strip shining on the City, it looks cool and definitely a feature I’m glad the Briksmax team included.
