Get Growing With The FunWhole Farm Life Home Greenhouse (F9059) – Review

Taking a break from our usual FunWhole antics, such as Town Life and Street Fusion, we bring you an awesome little set from their Farm Life series. For me personally, I tend to focus on modular buildings that will eventually be added to Gregsville, my City, but having seen how sweet the FunWhole Farm Life Home Greenhouse (F9059) looked in photos, I knew I had to get my hands on it, I’m so glad I did!

The set is a quaint Greenhouse surrounded by vegetable plots and foliage, it is very photogenic especially when you turn the lights on. That’s right, this set comes complete with lights, it’s standard with all FunWhole sets. For many it’s what draws them to the set, along with the unique builds of course. When a bunch of cool LEDs, both long and single studs are included you know it’ll look spectacular with the lights on and off.

Inside the box you’ll find 8 numbered bags, an F bag which are the specialist bricks and Minifigure, the instructions and the now infamous bright orange box. As we’ve said many times the manual is easy to follow and very straightforward, at times it may be hard to differentiate between shades but generally the colours are clear.

The bags and their stages feel steady whilst seemingly building quite a lot in one go. The first bag for example constructs the base, with 10s of plates and 100s of parts you feel that you’ve accomplished something substantial early on. The same goes for the other bags, one focuses on the plots, the other on the windows and so on, breaking the set up nicely.

Building the Greenhouse itself is fun and filled with simple but nice techniques. Using corner plates and tiles to create angled wall sections is clever and the end result is satisfying to pop in place. Inside the Greenhouse are more vegetables and furniture and garden related accessories, such has a work table, tap and sink and a cabinet.

The roof section is simply bricks and windows stacked upon each other and placed on top of the Greenhouse. Thanks to slightly protruding plates it rests on top and loosely slots in place, it can easily be removed as there aren’t any connecting studs, but it does stay in position when left alone.

Outside is covered in foliage and yet more vegetables, mostly situated in brick-built plots, that have a ton of printed wood effect tiles. Just like the lights, every (newer) FunWhole set has printed elements and not stickers, which is epic. Here we have a good handful of printed wood tiles, signs and the walkway inside the Greenhouse are all prints, I particularly like the cobbled walkway tiles and wish they were sold separately.

The single Minifigure included is a very content gardener character, her face is filled with glee and pride as she attends to her growing plants and vegetables. You’ll need to construct the Minifigure, even the hands need popping into place. This is one of the reasons I don’t personally like FunWhole figures, having to build them entirely. This isn’t so bad when only one is included, but imagine when there are 6, 7 or more, it becomes tedious very quickly.

Fitting the lights and slotting the cables in place has become second nature to me now, having built quite a few FunWhole sets. The specialist bricks and plates that allow the cables to run safely through and under are a godsend, the process is so much easier and actually a joy to install. The battery pack clips onto the side of the Greenhouse and kept out the way and out of sight, not that it’s ugly, in fact the opposite. It takes 3 AAA batteries so make sure you have them handy when building, or for testing at the start.
