Review: LEGO Star Wars Dark Trooper Attack (75324)!

I’ll start off by saying that I throughly enjoy watching Star Wars and the TV shows but I wouldn’t say I’m a guy that knows the total ins & outs of the whole franchise, this includes character names, locations, and pretty much every minor detail there is to know, I basically get by with the bear minimum.

I do however appreciate a good LEGO Star Wars set when I see one, this includes the set I have for review today, LEGO Star Wars Dark Trooper Attack (75324)!

The set itself could almost fall into the Battle Pack category as that is what it most resembles to me. A collection of four Minifigures and a small build, in this case a slightly larger build than most Battle Packs. The vignette part of the set recreates the corridor taken straight out of The Mandalorian TV show and the episode where, spoiler alert, Luke Skywalker turns up to save the day.

The Box & Contents:

Recently the box art that LEGO produce has been on point but this one in particular is a bit of a let down, in the sense that not a lot is happening in the background, which I understand isn’t necessarily a bad thing but purely in comparison to others it falls slightly short.

It is however a new style of box in that the design has changed somewhat compared to the last lot of LEGO Star Wars sets, with a burnt orange strip running diagonally across the top left corner.

Inside the box you’ll find two numbered bags, a sticker sheet, and of course the instruction manual.

The sticker sheet is quite interesting as it features some cool and very handy designs, mainly the iconic wall lights found so often in the enemy ships and Death Star. These will be fitted to one of the play features, the rotating door, once it has been built.

The Build:

Bag 1 has us make a start on the plinth/vignette build, laying down the foundations and leaving openings for playable parts added in bag 2.

The second bag adds to and finishes the whole build and to a very satisfactory level I might add, with a very photogenic interior and three playable features.

The first I’ll point out is the rotating door where Luke Skywalker makes his entrance, more on the Minifigures later in the review. Simply pop Luke on the visible studs inside the door and twiddle the Technic gear located directly above the door itself. Luke will appear as if by magic and slay the awaiting Dark Trooper Droids!

As you can see from the images the stickers are out to very good use providing much needed detail on what would have been a plain, boring, canvas. The greys and dark tones may work in the Star Wars universe but in LEGO form they sure don’t, so in this particular case stickers are most welcome.

Other play features include the spinning 2×2 round plate and a sliding bar. Again pop Luke on the spinning plate and you can recreate the epic Lightsaber battle from the TV show, well in a more LEGO-esque fashion.

The sliding bar that is located in the floor allows you to place a Dark Trooper on it and once again recreate a scene from the TV show, where Luke uses the Force to push a Dark Trooper back. They both work really well and are great fun to play with.

Now onto the main event and the reason why any self respecting AFOL (Adult fan of LEGO) picks up this set, and many others, the Minifigures!

The Minifigures:

Starting with the three Dark Troopers, they are incredible!

Let me elaborate, it’s the first time this Star Wars character has been made into a LEGO Minifigure, this is enough to grab anyone’s attention, which it did andnhas been on back order online since it launched, secondly the design, prints, and moulded helmet are what really take these Minifigures to the next level!

The helmets are moulded specifically for this Minifigure making them totally unique and exclusive to this set and the Imperial Light Cruiser (75315). The shoulder armour is a piece I’ve seen before but this time in black and with new printing. I particularly like the eye holes  that have been cutout and allows the red to show through from the head pieces, making them look truly terrifying.

Moving onto Luke Skywalker we have the same deal, he is 100% exclusive to the set and won’t be found by where else, we’ll until he’s in a future release that is.

He comes with the new style of hood piece that has the open chin section, allowing for the look of the hood and the robes look more as one piece.

This is my first Luke Skywalker Minifigure in this particular style, black robes and robotic hand, and I must say it is such a joy to have it in the collection, perfect for taking photos of and including in future MOCs.

He comes with two faces, one with a gentle smirk, the other has a touch of anger about it with the slightly down turned mouth. Both are simple but great designs and the printing is done to a high standard, which LEGO pride themselves on.

The Conclusion:

Overall the set is a must for any LEGO and Star Wars fan in general as it not only is a great little display piece it includes four awesome and unique Minifigures!

The vignette style build is cool and comes complete with a few playable features such as the rotating door which reveals Luke Skywalker and the slider that allows you to use the Force and push back a Dark Trooper.

Each of the Minifigures have incredible designs and prints which truly make them shine. The new moulded Helmets are insanely good and choosing to keep the eye holes open is genius, allowing the red on the head underneath to Peep through making them terrifying!

The cost, £24.99, isn’t too bad considering what is on offer here, four Minifigures and a generous amount of bricks, although I can’t escape the feeling that it’s just a glorified Battle Pack, which usually cost around £17.99.

Regardless of cost we truly feel this is a true LEGO Star Wars set and one fans of the theme should definitely pickup!
