The barrage of LEGO sets released at the start of this month was insane, well over 200 were dropped worldwide. Luckily most weren’t my cup of tea so picking what to buy was easy, a couple of LEGO City sets and the new Tudor Corner modular.
The set we’ve got for review for you today is the LEGO City Lifeguard Truck (60453). When I first saw this set I knew it would make a great addition to the Beach in Gregsville (my City), so it was an easy purchase. Read about the build process and what I think of it below.
The Box & Contents:
The box is the standard City design, with the blue banner we all know. Front and centre is the truck itself along with Minifigures and Shark. On the reverse you’ll find a different angle of the vehicle and a couple of the play features. Inside the box are 2 numbered bags, a small sticker sheet and a thin instruction manual. For a set this size and price (£19.99) the stickers aren’t too bad, with 4 in total with 3 being the same design.
The Build:
Starting off with the base of the vehicle, which is standard practice when building LEGO cars. A long wheelbase is needed when making a truck and this one is no different. Sat atop a 2×16 plate, the rear section gets built first followed by the front and a small portion of the sides.
This vehicle utilises the older style door pieces and I a so love that. The hinge action on these bad boys is so cool, it took me right back to my youth. After installing the doors you add a few more bits and finally the windscreen. You then move onto bag 2.
Bag 2 is the final nage and obviously finishes the set off. It’s more of the same to begin with, building up the sides and roof. The tail door is another play feature, it can be lowered and raised to allow for getting important supplies in and out of the back.
Inside the cab are two rows of jumper tiles, to allow for a Minifigure or 2 to sit down. Behind that is tgw large holding area/boot of the vehicle. Here 2 crates can be stored, they have been filled with emergency supplies including a first aid kit, a drink and other Lifeguard accessories.
I particularly like the use of crowbars as supports, the simply flip down to create the effect. It comes with 2 red surfboards and 2 red lifesaving devices. All in all the Lifeguard Truck is a great little build, from the top to the bottom, the roof to the wheels. The red yellow colour scheme is spot on and really sets this apart from other vehicles.
The Minifigures:
There are 2 characters included in the set, a Lifeguard and a civilian. Of course the Lifeguard Minifigure steals the show, it’s a set about him so makes sense. Sadly he only has one face but that’s understandable as he is sporting a cool red hat. The other Minifigure has 2 faces, one unsure and the other terrified. She it wearing a wetsuit and comes with a green surfboard.
Both Minifigures are integral to the set as who else would the Lifeguard be scanning the beach for than someone who went out too far or is struggling in the strong current.
Overall the LEGO City Lifeguard Truck (60453) set is worth the money. It is a nice addition to the collection and also makes a change for a vehicle of this type to make it as a buildable set. Our next review will be focused on an Ambulance, which actually looks like a real life one, again a rare occurrence in LEGO.
