The first ever Funwhole 3-in-1 set is here and it’s a lovely little build, but isn’t really a 3-in-1 set!
Our review today is of the latest addition to the Funwhole Steampunk series, the Motorcycle Pursuit (F9067). It’s small but mighty, a section of wall and walkway along with a vehicle that can change and be displayed in a few ways.
The Box & Contents:
A small package at first glance, but inside are several 1 & 2 numbered bags, an instruction manual and a light kit. Although small, the set comprises of 424 pieces and 2 Figures. There aren’t any specialist bricks or plates that hide cables, that’s because they aren’t needed, the cable threads though the inside of the Motorcycle to a narrow battery pack that takes 2x CR2032 batteries.
The instructions are an important aspect when building any set, so it’s a necessary talking point. Most newer Funwhole sets come with physical manuals, the quality is great and feels premium. They are easy to follow and make the whole process that much better.
The Build:
Starting off with the base and wall, the build is small and sits on a 12 studs deep by 24 studs wide base, not quite half a baseplate but close enough. It would have made sense to fit it onto a standard size as it would slot into a Cityscape easier, but not to worry, it can be modded or left as is.
I do like these smaller sets that have a section of wall attached, but for reasons away from the whole set aspect. I look at them as City add-on that I can take apart and mould into a section of my bustling City. The wall section looks great with the cogs, pipes, rubbish bin and printed tiles, as a standalone structure it is near perfect.
The walkway/path is plain but just as good, with the many grey tiles and kerb. Again for me this will be adapted in a part of my City and used to great affect. I like that Funwhole opts for larger tiles in their builds, they not only looks & feel better, but they also hold everything together.
When it comes to the 3-in-1 aspect, it doesn’t relate to 3 different builds, which is what we’ve come to expect thanks to other brands. Instead it has 3 display options. The first a simple, build the vehicle and place it on the set, the second is to attach it to the wall and rotate the wheels outwards to look like wings, the third is to make a separate display stand for it which actually looks and works really well.
The Lights:
The Lights come as standard with all Funwhole sets and really elevates any brick-built set to the next level. Included in this set is a single LED attached to a round 2×2 clear plate, which is the Motorcycles headlight. It’s bright and really does shine well when the lights are dimmed, great for putting a spotlight on the criminals in Steampunk City.
You thread the cable through the insides of the Motorcycle, hiding them from plain sight which it great for displaying, you don’t know there’s a light there until you switch it on. I really like the use of the narrow battery pack, it ticks away nicely under the Motorcycle. There is also a USB cable included incase you want to plug it directly into a USB socket, eliminating the need for batteries.
The Figures:
There are 2 figures included in the set, Code V is the shady-looking chap who is seemingly on the run from Alice, who hates crime!
The one thing Funwhole figures have going for them are the prints, they are exceptional. Faces, torsos and legs are the printed elements, I haven’t seen arm or leg printing yet but I’m sure one day it’ll happen. They are often unique and enchance the story of the set, just like the two below do, in their Steampunk outfits.
Overall the set is nice, small but well worth picking up if you are into the Funwhole Steampunk series. It won’t break the bank at £23.50, take our 10% discount into consideration and you have a great deal. Use THEBRICKPOST during checkout and bosh, the discount is applied.
