This time we have a look at the Chichén Itzá project by SJbricks40617. More precisely, it’s a model of Temple of Kukulcan or El Castillo, a part of the city of Chichén Itzá. The real life version can be found in the Mexican region Yucatan. It was built between the 8th and 12th century AD. Nowadays it’s one of the most famous remaining pyramids of the Maya civilization.

Both the Architecture theme and Creator Expert/Icons building landmarks haven’t really focussed on buildings outside Europe and the USA. There have been a couple Asian buildings and an Egyptian pyramid, but this would be something from a very different civilization than we’ve seen before. For this reason alone it would be awesome to see this project reach 10K supporters.

The steps of the pyramid use mostly wedge plates to give the model a bit of an eroded/weathered look. This will make the building experience less repetetive so that’s a very clever choice.

The temple on the top of the pyramid can be opened to reveal a small statuette inside. I have never visited Mexico so I can’t really judge if this is an authentic representation. If there’s more detail or color that can be added here, the model might benefit from it.

The creator doesn’t share how many parts are in this model, but I reckon it’s a lot. The dimensions are stated as:

Height : 28,8 cm/11,3 in
Length : 78,4 cm/30,9 in
Width : 80,5 cm/31,7 in
I’d imagine LEGO would scale it back a bit if it went into review, this is a really large and detailed model! Still, even in a smaller form, I’d love this idea to reach the stores at some point in the future. It would be a great addition to the current line up of architectural landmarks!

We would like to wish the creator the best of luck in gaining the required 10k support. If you like the look of this idea and would like to give your support, please use the links below. Registration is free to LEGO Ideas and only takes a minute, so head over there now and do your part!
