I often grab a LEGO City set now and again and love to build them with my young Son, we both love collecting LEGO Cars and vehicles.

When the set we’re reviewing was announced I initially thought the price tag was a little steep for what you actually get and so held off getting it. Skip ahead a few months and a well known Supermarket, Tesco, had reduced the set by half! After hearing about the deal from some friends who also picked it up, I knew now was the chance to grab it too – at that price it would be rude not too!

Having built this set whilst sat outside in the Sun at the weekend I thought I’d give you my opinion and thoughts on the build, playability, and Minifigures.

The build:

The box is a decent size and weight which is surprising as at first glance you’d think the part count isn’t that much. It’s actually more towards the higher end of the parts to cost ratio for a set that retails at £24.99.

You are actually getting a good deal LEGO-wise, I’d say the misunderstanding is with the design of the Transporter itself, the space the two levels create deceives the eye and tricks the brain into thinking less parts were used and so effects your decision to buy at that price.

I can safely say that I fully enjoyed this set, from start to finish and so did my young Son. The inclusion of two separate instruction manuals is a nice touch as we both grabbed one each and started building. Being only 5 Years old, my boy made a start on the smaller car, not because he’s a shoddy builder but more to with he looses interest in building rather quickly, and so would inevitably leave me finishing off both – Which is totally fine by me!

The small sports car looks absolutely stunning and has a great body shape to it, with the orange accent running throughout.

The black bonnet and boot use the same 4×4 roof element and to great effect. Giving the car its sharp curves and Muscle car physique.

It’s quite a low sitting car and sees the Minifigure almost seated on the floor. There is only room for one Minifigure, which is fine as that’s average with LEGO Built cars.

As you’d expect this fits onto the Transporter and sits in place without any issues, thanks to the 1×2 grille slopes exactly a wheel width apart. It’s such a simple build technique but one that would undermine the whole set if not done correctly.

With the use of LEGO Technic parts and pins we’re able to lower the top shelf to allow more cars on to the Transporter. It always amazes me the skill involved making things line up correctly and taking something that looks simple but actually maneuvers and functions the way it’s intended!

The car sits as intended in the grooves provided and it very stable, I tried my best to get the car to budge but it wouldn’t.

The Cab detaches from the Transporter part by simply pulling it slightly as its only held by ball and socket, which also gives it maneuverability when cornering.

Surprisingly the Cab has space for two Minifigures, just, which means the driver is moved to one side. It’s nice to see LEGO has left a bit of room and opening up the playability of this a little more.

Being a smaller set it does come with stickers but thankfully not many, six to be exact. Three feature the car transporters logo ‘Auto Haul’ and the others are the vehicles registration numbers.

From a MOC (my own creation)  view point this is a great parts set, not only do we get two 8×16 green plates, a handful of wheels, black bonnets, 2×6 white tiles, various SNOT (studs not on top), but also a ton of the 1x4x1 rounded corner panels in both white and lime green!

The Minifigures:

I love a good Minifigure and the two that are included here are very cool.

The Female Minifigure sports a snazzy leather jacket, stripey top, blue jeans, and sunglasses. This particular combination is definitely a fan favourite and has been done before to some extent. Pop her in the sports car and she looks ready to go cruising!

The Male car transporter driver also has a good variety of parts with his burgundy work hoody, dark blue jeans, matching hat, and older Male face with sideburns – He looks the part and gets the job done. Oddly enough the sideburn head piece is one of my favourites, I must have a good handful in my spares already.

Again if you were to part these out and use for spares or your own Sigfig (signature figure) there’s definitely a lot to choose from style wise. Try mixing parts from both Minifigures and see what you come up with!

Overall a great little set, although the RRP is a little steep but you do get your monies worth.

The two builds, main and side, are pretty decent and look good, being instantly recognisable is a good thing and I’d say the Transporter is for sure. The car is basic but does look the part, I like the muscle car style.

Both Minifigures are cool and made up of some really handy peices. Their designs and prints are top notch and done to LEGO’s high standard.

We recommend picking up this set if you’re a fan of LEGO City, expanding your City, or just want an enjoyable build!
