I can’t believe this project has passed me by, it only has 31 days left (at the time of publishing this article) and I’m afraid it won’t make the next milestone. Being a massive fan of the movie, which I saw when I was a child, it gripped me in a way that I had never experienced before, or since to be perfectly honest. It follows Alex Rogan, an expert video game player who lives in a trailer park and has no promising future. One day he meets Centauri, an alien ranger, who wants to recruit him as a Starfighter pilot – and the rest is history as they say.

The creator has done an amazing job in translating both the characters into Minifigure form and the Gunstar One ship out of LEGO bricks. From the pointy cockpit to the bulky engines and weapons at the back, the ship looks incredible and one I would totally love to have on display in my collection.

Being born the same year this movie released, 1984, I obviously didn’t watch it until later in life, but that doesn’t mean I love it even less. I can still remember a good chunk of the movie and some of the lines, it’s very much relevant now as it was when I first saw it, being a big gaming fan too it means even more to me. Yes, I’ve thought the same would happen to me if I played my best!

The Last Starfighter tells the story of a trailer-park teen, Alex Rogan, who gets recruited by the Star League (an alien defense force) to defend Rylos and “the Frontier” against Xur and the Ko-Dan Armada.

The Minifigures are awesome and two I’d love to have in my collection. TheBrickBang has done a great job it capturing both the characters and their retro Space suits, with the pastel blue underlay, the tubes and the Starfighters badge. The heads look spot in too, although Alex has a yellow head and a somewhat generic expression. Grig, Alex’s co-pilot, looks spot on with his Alien face and matching Space suit, it makes me want to have this as a real set even more!

Why should LEGO create The Last Starfighter (not just 80s nostalgia)
The Last Starfighter was the first film to incorporate groundbreaking CGI effects rather than traditional physical models. Rendering the 25 minutes of space shots took over 2 years on a CRAY supercomputer.

We would like to wish TheBrickBang the best of luck in gaining the required 10k support. If you like the look of this idea and would like to give your support, please use the links below. Registration is free to LEGO Ideas and only takes a minute, so head over there now and do your part!

Who Would You Like To See As A LEGO Minifigure? https://www.thebrickpost.com/blog/who-would-you-like-to-see-as-a-lego-minifigure/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/blog/who-would-you-like-to-see-as-a-lego-minifigure/#respond Sun, 10 Mar 2024 17:19:21 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=36237 Minifigures are a big deal to LEGO and collectors, the humble little plastic people that we know and love were first conceived in 1978 (movable arms/legs) and have been a staple of many LEGO sets since. The very first character to be made was a Policeman, which was reimagined in Collectible Minifigure Series 18, it happened to be very rare and sought-after because it was limited to one per box.

LEGO also specialise in licensed characters, from Start Wars, Jurassic Park/World, Marvel, DC and so many more. With a ton of Mini under their belt there seems to be a never ending selection to collect, add new and unreleased sets to the mix and were are very spoilt as fans. Of course there are a ton of characters LEGO have yet to do from themes that don’t exist yet, but which iconic characters would you like to see in Minifigure form? That’s today’s big question, so please comment below with your prized list of movie stars, singers, TV show actros, characters, historical figures and so many more other sources of inspiration.

For me personally I would love to see an Alien Minifigure from Ridley Scott’s 1979 cult classic series of movies, along with Ripley and the Nostromo crew. To be honest any character from any 80’s movie would be great, that was a great decade for movies, with the likes of GhostBusters, Die Hard, Back to the Future and so many more, come on LEGO, pull your finger out, us AFOLs want an 80’s theme!

Who would you like to see as a LEGO Minifigure?

Don’t limit your decision based on the example below. It could be anyone from the damn of time, a famous actor or musician, a historical figure, a scientist, a fictional character, the pool to pick from is unlimited, so choose wisely.
