It is based on an idea by Andrea Lattazino from Italy, throughout the build there are a couple of great references to the Italian flag.

The set retails for £159.99 and has 2,082 pieces and comes with 4 unique Minifigures.

There are two instruction booklets. I have found that since changing the instructions to a standard white design, they can look a bit boring. This is not the case with this set which has two excellent illustrations of the A-Frame Cabin.

The Build:

I found this to be a really fun build. One of the first things to say is that there are no stickers which is always a bonus with LEGO sets. There are some great printed pieces for the set, including a LEGO doormat, a painting of the A-Frame Cabin and three beautiful butterfly pieces. We also get a good range of animals and birds to help give the set an out in the wild look. There’s a great use of Thor’s hammers to create the stone wall at the front of the house.

The build comprises of 15 bags split over two books. The first 9 bags cover the A Frame itself with 1 bag used to build the red tree to the left. Bags 10 & 11 are for the roof and then the last 4 bags are for the side build to the right of the cabin and the last two trees. The trees do a great job of helping the cabin feel in the woods and away from civilization.

The set has a modular element to it so you can display it in different ways to display your set depending on space.

The Set:

One of my favourite things about the set is all the little side builds that come together to make the set feel like the perfect place for a chilled weekend in the country. The roof is split into sections that can easily be removed to show the inside of the cabin. I love the record player which I can imagine would be nice to sit back and listen to the music or you could sit at the typewriter and write the next bestseller. The occupants of the cabin certainly like nature and their crystals, magnifying glasses and a camera dotted throughout the cabin.

There is no toilet, which my son George found funny and said he wouldn’t stay there. However, there is a shovel and toilet paper so I guess you head out and dig a whole. It looks like there are no bears around, so you don’t need to worry about being caught out. George wasn’t impressed with the outside shower so I don’t think he would be heading out there any time soon lol.

The set also has a little reference to another LEGO Ideas set; the soon to be retired Treehouse in the bedroom area at the top of the cabin. There are random LEGO pieces to show a build in progress and what you find in most LEGO fan’s homes and a complaint for many parents and spouses (I know it is for my wife lol).

The Minifigures:

The four Minifigures all do a great job of looking like they are dressed and ready for the great outdoors, whether it be a trek through the woods or kayaking on a river.

The Minifigures are designed to be interchangeable so you can mix and match to create your own minifigures, they also have reversible heads as well.

The Cost:

The set retails for £159.99 and is currently only available at LEGO stores/website or Smyths Toys Superstores. I thought this was cracking value for a 2,000+ piece set, especially when compared to similar priced sets on the market.

Final Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this set and found it to be a fun build.  This is an awesome display set, it’s different to a lot of the other sets currently available. I love the Minifigure selection and the choice of animals and birds included in the set. If you haven’t already added this to your wish list, I would definitely recommend that you do, and with double points coming up soon it could be the perfect chance to get it.

Ratings:

GET COSY IN THE LEGO IDEAS A-FRAME CABIN

13th January 2023: Banish those January blues with the new LEGO® Ideas A-Frame Cabin set. Designed by Italian LEGO fan designer, Andrea Lattanzio, this set is the perfect retreat when you want to get away from it all. Inspired by A-framed log cabins, this set features two-stories complete with upper bedroom and ground-floor living room and kitchen.

Outside there is a deck with steps down to the great outdoors – where you will find a woodshed and intricate trees which are home to a friendly squirrel. The four included LEGO minifigures can get cosy by the fireplace, jam with the acoustic guitar or take a trip in the canoe.

Talking about his design, Andrea, a big LEGO fan, said; “I was looking through a book with many strange houses from all over the world and I discovered the A-Frame and it was love at first sight. I started with a sketch, so I had a clear vision and then built my design in about 10-days.”

To celebrate the launch, the LEGO Group has created a cabin chill experience – where you can retreat to nature via the LEGO cabin cam www.lego.com/cabin and see what happens in the woods! You might even spot the squirrel.

The new LEGO Ideas A-Frame Cabin set, available from 1st February 2023 (for LEGO VIPs) and 4th February 2023 for all, via LEGO Stores and www.lego.com/cabin priced at $/€179.99/£159.99/279.99 AUD/239.99 CAD.
