LEGO ART The Milky Way (31212) Officially Revealed! https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/lego-art-the-milky-way-31212-officially-revealed/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/lego-art-the-milky-way-31212-officially-revealed/#respond Thu, 25 Apr 2024 13:05:03 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=37544 After months of rumours, LEGO has finally released images of the latest LEGO ART The Milky Way (31212) set. It’s a big framed image of the Milky Way made from LEGO bricks. The build consists of 3,091 pieces and is made suitable to build with a group of people.

The style of the set is quite a departure from earlier ART sets. Instead of just tiles and plates, there are all kinds of elements to be discovered on the build. Known in the community as ‘Greebling‘, this style will be familiar to a lot of MOC builders. This creates a more interesting look than sets before it but at the same time makes the set quite redundant since it’s a lot more fun to pick those details yourself and hide fun parts, animals etc. There’s even a ‘You Are Here‘ tile, which points to Earth, although far too small to pin point at this scale.

With a retail price of $199.99/€199.99/£169.99 it will most likely be too expensive for people to consider it as a parts pack alone. The release date for LEGO Insiders is 15th May.

Let us know what you think of the set via the comments section below.

LEGO Ideas Feature: Vermeer 2.0 The Milkmaid With The Pearl Earring By RickLenssen https://www.thebrickpost.com/lego-ideas/lego-ideas-feature-vermeer-2-0-the-milkmaid-with-the-pearl-earring-by-ricklenssen/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/lego-ideas/lego-ideas-feature-vermeer-2-0-the-milkmaid-with-the-pearl-earring-by-ricklenssen/#respond Sun, 04 Feb 2024 12:21:08 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=35407 When picking a cool LEGO Ideas project to feature, I usually browse through the latest first. Today however, I’d like to highlight a project that’s been around for a while but has a lot of potential.

When new Ideas projects are picked or released, the platform is often flooded with similar projects. After Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ was released there was a burst of new art based projects being submitted. At first I didn’t pay them much attention, but this Vermeer 2.0 project is something quite different!

The project is based on pixel art and made with slopes to have 2 of the most famous artworks by Johannes Vermeer depicted, depending which way you look at it. This makes it the perfect decoration for hallways or other places people walk by.

The designer explains the origins for these artworks best:

‘The Girl With A Pearl Earring’ is an oil painting by Dutch Golden Age painter Johannes Vermeer, dated c. 1665. Going by various names over the centuries, it became known by its present title towards the end of the 20th century after the earring worn by the girl portrayed there.

‘The Milkmaid’, sometimes called The Kitchen Maid, is an oil-on-canvas painting of a “milkmaid”, in fact, a domestic kitchen maid, by the Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer. The exact year of the painting’s completion is unknown, with estimates varying by source, it was painted in about 1658–1661.

– Rick Lenssen

Fun fact:

Did you know that LEGO City Museum Break-In (set 60008) features a sticker with a LEGO Version of this painting? It’s always fun to have some easter eggs when LEGO sets refereence each other, so that’s another good reason this could make a good Ideas set!

We would like to wish Rick Lenssen the best of luck in gaining the required 10k support. If you like the look of this idea and would like to give your support, please use the links below. Registration is free to LEGO Ideas and only takes a minute, so head over there now and do your part!

Find your flow with the iconic Hokusai: The Great Wavere-imagined as LEGO® Art

Unwind and find your flow while building LEGO® Art Hokusai: The Great Wave. A creative tribute to a global icon and masterpiece with a long history of cultural relevance in Japan and around the world.

Billund, December 28, 2022: Easily one of the most recognizable and influential Japanese artworks of all time continues to make creative waves around the world: Hokusai – The Great Wave. The LEGO Group is paying tribute to this global masterpiece and its almost two-century long history by re-imagining the iconic masterpiece in LEGO Art form, giving lovers of art and Japanese culture the opportunity to immerse themselves into a relaxing build, perfect for displaying at home.

Since Katsushika Hokusai created the original woodblock print of The Great Wave in the early 1830’s, the image has decorated the walls of museums, inspired music, and been recreated as street art and merchandise around the world. The image portrays Mount FUJI, Japan’s iconic mountain, behind a large wave covering a group of small boats.

The artwork has now been re-imagined by LEGO designers in this new 1,810-piece LEGO Art set, featuring layers and elements of different shapes to portray the line sand depth of Hokusai’s original artwork.

“We’re thrilled that fans of art and Japanese culture will get the chance to immerse themselves into the relaxing project of recreating the iconic Great Wave, captured in a LEGO Art set,” said Annemette Baaskjær Nielsen, Designer at the LEGO Group.

“This set offers so many ways that fans can unwind and find their flow. Not just immersing themselves into the building process, but also getting into the artwork and how that is composed. Sparking an interest in Hokusai’s instantly recognizable original and its rich history of almost 200 years.”

According to new research, from the LEGO Group’s global ‘Play Well 2022 Report’, most adults (93%) regularly feel stressed and are looking for new ways to unwind and relax (80%). Most of them (92%) want to unwind and find their flow through activities that are related to their hobbies and interests.

Art and LEGO fans can find their flow as they build and listen to the accompanying soundtrack while looking through the premium booklet of instructions that features details about the original artwork. Using LEGO Art Hokusai: The Great wave as a great escape.

The 1,810-piece LEGO Art Hokusai: The Great Wave set is available from January 1st from LEGO.com and LEGO retailers priced at €99.99 / $99.99 / £89.99.

LEGO Art The Rolling Stones (31206) Set Revealed! https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/lego-art-the-rolling-stones-31206-set-revealed/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/lego-art-the-rolling-stones-31206-set-revealed/#respond Tue, 03 May 2022 07:01:52 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=18269 A new LEGO Art set has been revealed, this time by a different German retailer Taschengelddieb!

The set is based on the iconic logo from The Rolling Stones and is to consist of 1,998 pieces and has a 3D look, which departs from the usual LEGO Art style of square and flat.

Take a look below at the set and let us know in the comment what you think of it. Personally speaking as much as I enjoy the music of The Rolling Stones, this set looks a little off to me, it’s the black outline and how ‘edgy’ it is, like a bad Photoshop cutout.

In LEGO’s commitment to continue supplying alternative builds for an ART set they have added more free instructions to their VIP Rewards Centre, the instructions allow you to create a while new picture, several in fact, including a Bunny, two Easter Eggs, a Duckling, and so much more.

What I particularly like about these ideas are the way you can sit down with your family or friends and build together, each producing a square of your own and then combining them to make one big one.

You can find the alternate instructions in the LEGO VIP Rewards Centre, they are free to redeem and download, so have fun!
