This is not nearly every set LEGO released of course, but it gives an impression of the sets we liked most.

Our review panel consisting of Greg, BanthaToys, Boom Brickz, Brick McBricksworth, Brick Shed, Lets_Brick_It and myself had a thorough look and these were our verdicts!

Only 2 sets managed to get a perfect 10/10 score. The batman 1992 polybag and the Friends Botanical Garden set. And not without reason of course. Based on reactions online the Botanical Garden appealed to a lot of people that usually don’t pay attention to Friends. A few sets like the Mighty Bowser came close however.

Below you’ll find the full list of reviewed sets, be sure to dive into the reviews to get the full story behind each grade.

LEGO Avatar – Ilu Discovery (75575) & Swimwing Adventure (75576)! https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-avatar-ilu-discovery-75575-swimwing-adventure-75576/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-avatar-ilu-discovery-75575-swimwing-adventure-75576/#respond Mon, 27 Feb 2023 17:56:35 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=25189 The Avatar franchise by James Cameron is back and better than ever, with amazing 3D scenes and great storyline we as a Family just had to go and see it, although afterwards we had to call into the LEGO store and buy some of the themed sets!

Starting off small we decided to go for the two rideable Marine creatures, Ilu Discovery (75575) & Swimwing Adventure (75576). These come packed with a selection of colourful parts including unique moulded heads for the sea beasts and plastic wings & fins. They also come bundled with 2 Minifigure characters each, making them quite an affordable yet impressive addition to the line.

This review article will focus on both the sets mentioned above and hopefully give you a good idea of what’s included and parts of interest, also we take a closer look at the Minifigures.

But first, a little bit of product information:

  • Ilu Discovery (75575)
  • 176 parts
  • £19.99 / $/€24.99
  • 1st January 2023 release
  • Swimwing Adventure (75576)
  • 259 parts
  • £29.99 / $/€34.99
  • 1st January 2023 release

The Boxes:

Both boxes are covered head-to-toon bright artwork taken from Pandora, the World of Avatar. Being mainly Ocean based there is a lot of water depicted in the scene, combine that with the brick-built creatures and you have beautiful designs.

Inside each set you’ll find a handful of numbered bags along with an instruction manual and a sheet of thin but durable plastic, these are the wings and fins. Coming pre-perferated they are easy enough to pop out of there template, it’s also quite satisfying too. Below is the sheet found in the Swimwing Adventure (75576) set.

The Builds:

Both sets are similar in terms of builds, obviously size comes into it and therefore for parts to account for, but as you’ll probably see from the images below there is a small display plinth disguised as Coral or Rock in both sets, along with a Sea creature that has basic articulation and again a stand to display it on.

Being the bigger of the two, the Swimwing Adventure (75576) creature is quite impressive with its surprisingly wide wingspan. With slightly more articulation you can pose this majestic beast into some cool positions, we’ve gone for the one on the box for our display.

The unique moulded heads are great too and have an open and shut mechanic that is handy, having the mouth open and stay open is great, makes posing them all that much easier.

Using curved tiles to give the creatures a more finished look is welcomed. The open studs underneath them both are forgivable, these aren’t really seen anyway if displayed in certain ways.

I think you’ll agree that the plastic wings & fins look fantastic and really add the finishing touches to each model. These bendy and quite hardy pieces of plastic simply pop onto LEGO ball pins via precut holes, be careful not to stretch them to much though.

As mentioned above there are smaller but sturdy display stands for each of the beasts and the Minifigures. These are simple builds consisting of a handful of LEGO elements, a small baseplate, sloped bricks, cheese wedges and pastel coloured Corel pieces. On the Minifigure plinths there are small transparent connectors that allow you to place the characters at different angles, giving freedom in how you display them.

The Minifigures:

There are two Minifigures in each set, which isn’t at all bad, more would have been nice in the bigger set but we can’t have everything.

Included in the Ilu Discovery (75575) set are Tsireya and Tuk, two characters from almost opposite sides of Pandora, one from the Jungle the other from the Sea. Having one of each it a single set is a great way to entice fans, giving them more reason to collect other sets and grab more characters.

In the Swimwing Adventure (75576) set we have Tonowari and Jake Sully, the leaders of their respected tribes. Again including the two leaders in a single set is great for us in the sense we don’t have to spend much to get them both.

Each Minifigure is done incredibly well, both the design and printing is spot on. There is so much to look at including seashells, accessories, clothing and more. Even on the back there is awesome printing. LEGO have done an amazing job capturing the look and feel of the Avatar characters in brick form.

Overall both sets are great, I can’t personally fault them, which is rare as usually something, beit small or big, stands out as being off, but not here!

The builds are enjoyable with a use of different techniques. The Minifigures are spot on and the presentation is awesome, good job LEGO!

Thank you for reading our review of Ilu Discovery (75575) and Swimwing Adventure (75576). Both sets are a a to purchase in-store and online. If you have these please do let us know what you think of them, we’d love to hear from you.

LEGO Avatar Floating Mountains: Site 26 and RDA Sampson (75573) – Review By Brick Shed https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-avatar-floating-mountains-site-26-and-rda-sampson-75573-review-by-brick-shed/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-avatar-floating-mountains-site-26-and-rda-sampson-75573-review-by-brick-shed/#respond Wed, 21 Dec 2022 10:51:46 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=23622 I’m Michael, a.k.a Brick Shed, big fan of LEGO and a father of two boys. Please join me on my adventures sharing my love of LEGO via Instagram and my reviews here on The Brick Post. I love building and you’ll often find me buried in bricks getting stuck into a set or two.

I hope you enjoy my review of LEGO Avatar Floating Mountains: Site 26 and RDA Sampson (75573)!

The set retails for £89.99 and includes 887 pieces. There are 5 minifigures in total, split between three humans and two Na’vi. The humans are Jake Sully, Grace and as we get a Samson 16 we have to include Trudy. All the humans have reversible heads. The Na’vi are Jake and Norm. We also get a fantastic Direhorse.

The Build:

I built this with my eldest son and we really enjoyed ourselves. There are six bags in total but it is split into three separate builds; The Research Station, The Floating Mountains and Samson. There are three separate instruction books, which means you can build the different sections independently as a group.

The sticker sheet has eight stickers, with six applied to the Samson and two to the Research Station.

Bags 1-3 cover the Site 26 mobile station, Bag 4 is the floating mountains and Bags 5-6 are the Samson. We built it in reversal order and I don’t think it made much difference to the build experience.

The instructions include images from the films, which is a great touch and hopefully we’ll see that more often across other themes.

The Set:

The main draw to this set will be the excellent Samson build. Lego have done a great job in recreating the Samson into brick-built form. The canopy piece is printed so thankfully you don’t have to apply stickers to it. The stickers are applied to the top and sides. The only slight criticism I have is that in order to fit Trudy in to pilot it, you have to bend her back slightly back to fit her in.

My boys had a lot of fun playing with the Samson and it is pretty sturdy and even survived the hands of a toddler. The only bit that broke off easily was the tail section. I am surprised that considering how militaristic the Samson looks that it has been made into Lego form. It does include two stud shooters on the side. Although there are no baddies included in the set to shoot at!

The mobile station has been shrunk down from the movie but does include a workstation and Link Unit. There is a detachable side so that you can see inside and allows playability. The door chosen allows Jake Sully to fit through with his wheelchair.

The Floating Mountains looks a little lack lustre and don’t really portray Pandora but they do allow you to attach the Samson to give it the effect of flying.

The Minifigures:

The five minifigures included in the set are all currently exclusive to it. This is currently the only set to include human Jake Sully. Across the Avatar theme there are three versions of Jake in Na’vi form and we get one of those in this set.

In order to make the Na’vi taller than the humans, they have extended the legs and arms but the torso remain the same which does mean that they look a little odd. However, overall Lego have done a good job in creating the Na’vi.

Grace and Trudy look fantastic, and very much like onscreen portrayals. Grace and Jake have the breathing masks as their reversable side and Trudy has her war paint from the final battle.

Grace is my favourite minifigure and has dual printed legs with a belt, socks and boots. Her torso has a rumpled shirt and necklace.

Compared to Grace and Trudy, Jake looks a little lackluster. I think Lego could have personalized him by adding a tattoo to his arms. One thing to note is that Jake has a new wheelchair piece.

The Direhorse looks fantastic and has a piece that connects to the back of the Na’vi to create the bond.

The Cost:

The biggest issue with the set is the cost at £89.99, which feels expensive. This is definitely one set that you’ll want to pick up when it’s on offer.

Final Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this set and will be looking to pick up other Avatar sets, especially the AMP Suit. Hopefully if the theme does well, it will open the possibility of larger D2C style sets such as the Dragon Assault Ship. I am seeing the second movie soon, and will be looking forward to seeing the January wave of sets that tie in with the second movie.

During the discussion she detailed many of the upcoming items being produced alongside the Avatar movies franchise, including the once rumoured LEGO sets.

The LEGO Group will also have a full suite of building sets to recreate and display major movie moments across both the first “Avatar” film and “Avatar 2.

What we can take from that is at least a few sets based on the original movie and subsequent sequels will be heading our way. It totally makes sense as the lush World of Pandora is perfect to recreate in LEGO form.

Watch this space for more details surrounding the theme and sets.
