LEGO Ideas Feature: The Falkirk Wheel by JustJ0e https://www.thebrickpost.com/lego-ideas/lego-ideas-feature-the-falkirk-wheel-by-justj0e/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/lego-ideas/lego-ideas-feature-the-falkirk-wheel-by-justj0e/#respond Sun, 03 Sep 2023 09:49:21 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=30643 I often think to myself: this should be made in LEGO! One of the most recent instances was discovering the Falkirk Wheel. This is a rotating boat lift in Scotland that can transport boats from the Forth & Clyde Canal to the Union Canal, covering a height difference of 35 meter. It’s a massive construction and a true marvel of engineering.

So I had a look on LEGO Ideas and found this model by JustJ0e. It’s recreated the Falkirk Wheel in LEGO Architecture style, including a few boats. I would have loved if it also had the rotating function, but maybe that’s something LEGO designers can add if this Idea will make it into the review.

I built this because I have always been fascinated by bridges and unique architecture. The engineering required to build and manage this bridge is impressive. I believe this would make a great set because there are others like me who like to appreciate and admire engineering feats.

LEGO Ideas Feature: Bob’s Old Tugboat by Konajra https://www.thebrickpost.com/lego-ideas/lego-ideas-feature-bobs-old-tugboat-by-leastpricklysieve/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/lego-ideas/lego-ideas-feature-bobs-old-tugboat-by-leastpricklysieve/#respond Sat, 19 Aug 2023 09:10:31 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=30229 This week’s LEGO Ideas feature is a greatly detailed model of a tugboat, created by Konajra.

The designer created a nice backstory for his submission:

Tugger 3 is a harbor tugboat bought by Bob about 35 years ago to start BTS: Bob’s Towing Service – To wherever you like. All these years Tugger 3 has never failed Bob. They towed everything from carbage barges to brand-new superyachts and everything in between.

– Konajra

Because of all the details, the model contains close to 2,900 pieces. The hull is brick built instead of using big hull pieces. There’s loads of other details making this a very realistic tugboat. Because of the backstory there are also a few sidebuilds showing the boat undergoing refurbishment.

Beneath the deck the tugger is fitted with an engine room, kitchen and living area. These areas also contain great detail. I can only encourage you to visit the LEGO Ideas page and have a closer look at all the pictures of the model and read a bit more about Bob and his boat.

If this would indead become a set it would fit really nice with other LEGO Ideas sets like the Old Fishing Store and the currently available lighthouse.

A couple of updates for this idea have been posted, most importantly of which is the brick-build version. The images above show the Stud.io render, but since gathering the parts and building it for real, LeastPricklySieve has actually made their design. Take a look below at the brick-built version in all its glory.

LEGO Ideas Feature: Small Shrimping Boat By Adwind https://www.thebrickpost.com/lego-ideas/lego-ideas-feature-small-shrimping-boat-by-adwind/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/lego-ideas/lego-ideas-feature-small-shrimping-boat-by-adwind/#comments Sat, 11 Feb 2023 09:46:08 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=24915 When it comes to LEGO Ideas and choosing a weekly feature, we look at many aspects of the build, is it unique, is it fun, techniques used, and Minifigures (if any), we also have to personally like it otherwise the support we give will be empty and meaningless.

When a new project comes along and ticks every box we can’t wait to share it with you. What makes it even better is the guy behind it is genuinely nice and friendly, he even has an official LEGO Ideas set under his belt already. Alex (Adwind) is the genius behind LEGO Ideas Home Alone (21330), one of the best Ideas sets in recent years, in my opinion.

His brand new project idea sounds simple on paper but I assure you it is full of character, details and more, introducing the Small Shrimping Boat!

Alex has done an astounding job with the photos, using an eye-pleasing green/blue gradient background with a driftwood base, it really gives it that coastal feel.

Onto the actually build now and wow, it looks great. The proportions are perfect, the mast & rigging are well placed, and the cabin is big enough to fit a whole lot of detail inside.

Anna and her family live in a picturesque coastal town. She loves reading books but her absolute favorites are about sea adventures and boats. – Adwind

Adding a story to the set is a nice touch, here Anna and her Grandpa are yearning to set sail and catch Shrimp for her Parents seafood restaurant. She visits them during the Summer holidays and can’t wait to hit the open waves. Adding a story to any set not only extends the playability it also captures something we may not be able to do ourselves, giving us that freedom to live out the fantasy of sailing, off-roading, flying, whatever the set in question proposes. I personally would love to try my hand at sailing, one day, perhaps not on a working boat, more of a calmer experience and enjoy the Ocean, we can all dream right?!

It may look relatively small in size but the idea has 1,196 pieces and two Minifigures. The base must contain at least a quarter of that and rightly so, the technique used here is awesome and works a treat. Using SNOT (studs not on top), Alex has built the base on its side, allowing for better rounded edges and more importantly the presence of puddles, water that has gathered underneath the Boat. The soft blue shine of the transparent pieces really does add so much more to the overall look, it’s one of the reasons why we chose it for this week’s LEGO Ideas Feature!

Alex needs your support to make his idea become a reality, so if you like the concept then please click the links below and show your support. We wish Alex the best of luck and we look forward to seeing the Small Shrimping Boat on store shelves in the future!
