LEGO City Jungle Explorer ATV (60424) Review https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-city-jungle-explorer-atv-60424-review/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-city-jungle-explorer-atv-60424-review/#respond Sat, 22 Jun 2024 12:34:47 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=39473 Smaller sets on average are not only afford but also packed with great parts and Minifigures. Today’s review is a hark back to yesteryear as it sees the return of a fan favourite character, Johnny Thunder!

Being before my time, in terms of when I started collecting LEGO, the first line of Jungle sets passed me by, having seen them since I do regret not picking any up, but as a result of the recent LEGO trend of resurrecting some classic themes, Johnny Thunder and some vehicles have returned. Starting off with the entry level set, and the cheapest, our review will go through the build process, playability features and of course the Minifigure.

The Box & Contents:

Being an £8.99 set the box is small and the piece count is only 92, but let’s not hold that against it. The box is bright and colourful and filled with adventure, enough to attract the passing eye of both young and old fans. On the front you’ll find the ATV, side build, Minifigure and Red Panda, all taking pride of place. Flip the box over and some of the playability features are shown, from the many accessories and attachable elements.

What attracted me to this set is the fact we get a Johnny Thunder Minifigure a vehicle and Red Panda for a very affordable price.

As you can see from the photo below the parts came in cute little paper bags. These aren’t numbered as the set is so small it doesn’t warrant it, but none-the-less it’s great to see these paper bags appearing in more and more sets, even the small ones.

The Build:

Starting off the build with the smaller Jungle section, made up of only a handful of pieces, including leaves, flowers, slopes, an archway and connection points. This is where the Red Panda is placed, but more on that figure later. It’s a nice little build that cna be expanded upon if you have your own parts, flesh it out and some more temple ruins and alike.

The ATV is a nice surprise as it has a flatbed at the rear, perfect for transporting crates and animals. Again it’s a simple build but one that does have challenging sections representative of the 6+ age rating. The smaller parts are not too fiddly for little hands, making this a great set to get after the 4+ range. Just like past Jungle sets the colour scheme is perfect with it’s blue, orange and olive elements, great for a Jungle expedition without standing out too much. The use of some angled parts on the body is good and creates a more nature feel to the overall aesthetic.

Also included in the set is a 1×1 round printed tile that represents a compass, a 2×2 tile as a new updated map piece, a camera and a walkie talkie, everything an Explorer needs.

The Minifigure & Red Panda:

Johnny Thunder is back and he hasn’t aged a bit. It must be the Jungle berries and fresh air that keeps him looking young. Saying that he has changed a little from his last incarnation, he’s kept the moustache and let his beard grow a little with a nice bit of stubble. His outfit is on point and again hasn’t changed much, just a bit of graphical enchantment. The beige explorer shirt, red neckerchief and Indiana Jones style hat, he’s ready for what the Jungle throws at him.

Traversing through the Jungle he must see many exotic animals, but this one most definitely is The cutest, the Red Panda. Being exclusive to the, this animal figure is stunning and if it wasn’t for Johnny Thunder it would be the only reason to purchase this set.

The new mould produces a great shape, chuck in the dual-moulded markings and printed face LEGO are into a winner. I most certainly need to pickup more Red Pandas some day, before their price goes up.

Overall the LEGO City Jungle Explorer ATV (60424) set packs a massive punch, from the small builds and Red Panda to the mighty Johnny Thunder. It’s a must have for any LEGO fan, young and old!

Thank you for rwadong through our review, we hope it gave you enough insight into making a purchase or not. We highly recommend it and at £8.99 you really can’t go wrong. Let us know what you think about the set via the comments section below.

Which Classic LEGO Sets Deserves A Modern Remake? https://www.thebrickpost.com/blog/which-classic-lego-sets-deserves-a-modern-remake/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/blog/which-classic-lego-sets-deserves-a-modern-remake/#respond Sun, 19 May 2024 17:10:46 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=38541 LEGO has produced some awesome sets over the years, none more so than in the earlier years of the company, with the likes of Space, Cowboys, Pirates and City to name but a few themes.

Taking a look back at all the classic sets, I guess you could call them vintage or retro, we can see LEGO has come along way. Somethings have stayed roughly the same whilst others have changed drastically and even fizzled out completely. Thankfully though, LEGO are slowly but surely giving us fans what we want by revisiting some favourites, like the recent Lion Knight’s Castle, Space Galaxy Explorer, Eldorado Fortress and some gift with purchase sets, to name a few.

Whilst researching this topic, I came across so many older sets that I’ve never seen before. Perhaps the most appealing to me personally is the vast amount of City-style sets, including Fire stations, Dock yards, Petrol stations and so much more. It got me thinking that surely some are worthy of a modern LEGO remake, but which ones?

So my question for you is which classic LEGO sets deserve a modern remake? Discuss below or head over to our Instagram channel where these questions really take off. @thebrickpost

New LEGO City Jungle Animals Coming Soon! https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/new-lego-city-jungle-animals-coming-soon/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/new-lego-city-jungle-animals-coming-soon/#respond Sat, 11 May 2024 15:53:27 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=38256 With the new wave of LEGO City sets heading our way soon, we take a closer look at the new Animal figures included in the Jungle sub-theme!

If there’s something we love more that the humble LEGO Minifigure it would be Animal figures. We’ve had many over the years including Chickens, Cows, Sheep, Piglets and perhaps the greatest of them all, the Goat. The majority of these have come from the LEGO City theme, thankfully it’s not going to stop with all new creatures releasing this Summer. The Jungle sub-theme is back and looks to be better than ever with a surprise character returning, Johnny Thunder. Not only that but joining him will be a handful of new Animal moulds, which include a Tiger, adult & infant Gorillas, a Red Panda and recoloured Crocodiles.

The new LEGO City sets will be available from 1st June, check them out here in all their glory. Let us know what LEGO Animals you’d like to see in a future LEGO set via the comments section below.

Creating A LEGO City – My Journey So Far! https://www.thebrickpost.com/blog/creating-a-lego-city-my-journey-so-far/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/blog/creating-a-lego-city-my-journey-so-far/#respond Tue, 09 Apr 2024 15:28:34 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=37113 Since starting my obsession with LEGO many years ago, the direction in which I want to take my collection in constantly changes, from small display sets, Minifigures, larger display sets, back to Minifigures and repeat. But one thing has never changed, my love for LEGO Modulars!

The dream of having my very own City has been just that, a dream, until now. Having moved to a house that not only is in a different Country but also has the space to actually build something substantial and get the LEGO City party started. Situated in my garage, the basis for my City is 8 foot x 4 foot, made from wood and not-so expertly cobbled together. You might be thinking that a table that size is overkill, and you’d be right, but there is plenty of room for expansion and the many more Modulars yet to come from LEGO over the next several years.

After questioning the size of table I would like for many days, I finally settled on a sheet of 20mm ply for the top and 3×2″ CLS for the legs and supports, sourcing the wood from a local DIY store. Thankfully there wasn’t a need to trim the panel so it was a matter of cutting the legs and supports to size and fixing them securely to the table top. Making sure to use the golden rule throughout any DIY project, measure twice – cut once.

Marking where the legs would go, I flipped the table top over and screwed the supports on first followed by the legs. Using 6cm long screws to help with stability and overall sturdy-ness, I not only attached from the top but also the sides, securing the legs to the supports.

It was then a case of transporting it to my house just down the road, as I decided to construct it at my place of work, having that extra space and access to the right tools was great. It was a two man job lifting it into and out of the van, thanks Dad!

As I mentioned earlier I have recently moved house and those that have done do before know just how hectic and stressful it can get. The garage, where my table is going, is still chockablock with unsorted boxes and random odds & ends, so making a safe pathway through it all was necessary. Thankfully I managed to clear enough space for myself and designated helper to maneuver the sizeable table into it’s final resting place.

For entirely testing purposes, honest, I wanted to gather up my Modulars and road plates and see how the City would look temporarily in place on the table. I did this live whilst on Instagram for followers and other people in the se boat as me, hoping to get some advice was well as arrangement suggestions. I must say it looked great and felt amazing to finally have my sets out of storage and on display in the start of my City.

To make it harder for myself and to create extra work, I made the decision to give it a lick of paint. As baseplates and anything LEGO related is rather costly, I thought it would help the City blend in slightly better rather than sitting on plain wood. I think this particular shade of green, dubbed ‘Wet Lands‘, looks both LEGO-ish and natural, what do you think?

That’s not all I hope to paint as I have recently purchased yet more wood to use as a backdrop. Grabbing another sheet of ply, this time 9mm thick, I hope to cut it directly in half (long ways) which will be 2 foot tall and go along the back and furthest edge of the table. Painting it ‘Azure Sky 3‘, a lovely shade of blue, it would not only hide the brick wall behind it but also give better results when taking photos, perfect for scenes and posts.

I’m hoping to start work on the back panels very soon so watch this space for a City table update soon. As with all LEGO collections and projects, it never really ends, it’s great fun and a project I’m glad I started but it’ll be a long road until it looks more polished and an inhabitable place for Minifigures.

To stay up-to-date with my LEGO City journey please feel free to bookmark our website and follow us on Instagram. We also do random live streams from the garage too if that’s more your bag!

If you have a LEGO City or Street and would like to send in tips and suggestions, please use the comments section below. I’d love to hear what you have to say and the experience that comes from building up and maintaining a LEGO City.

LEGO Announces New Theme: Ready2Play Launches This Summer! https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/lego-announces-new-theme-ready2play-launches-this-summer/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/lego-announces-new-theme-ready2play-launches-this-summer/#respond Mon, 01 Apr 2024 05:54:56 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=36789 LEGO has announced a new theme for the younger age groups. The new Ready2Play theme focusses on toys to play with instead of building sets. Along with the announcement of the new theme, we had our first look at 2 sets releasing this Summer! Based on this first sets the new theme will include both minifigures and minidolls, which has only been seen with sets for The LEGO Movie 2.

The press release sent out for the announcement mentions these sets being a throwback to the early LEGO toys, before the introduction of the well known and beloved interlocking brick system. LEGO furthermore higlights it’s sustainability goals for introducing the new concept.

The first 2 sets are a police car and an ambulance, closely matching the existing City and Friends themes. These 2 sets will release June 1st and retail for . In the press release, LEGO teases more sets like a police station will follow later in the year. No words yet if that’ll be a minidoll or minifigure set.

The full statement from LEGO reads as follows:

The LEGO Group is excited to announce its latest innovation: LEGO Ready2Play. Based on extensive research over multiple years, we’re excited to bring a new play experience to children all over the world!

In recent decades, the LEGO product has been evolving with small steps. In the same time, the desires from children all around the world also shifted. As we found in our research, building a toy is seen more and more as an obstacle to get to a rewarding play experience.

In a big step for the company, we’ve been developping an inovative new concept that will be a main pillar going forward. In addition to DUPLO, System and Technic we now announce LEGO Ready2Play.

As Sven Steinson, VP of Product Innovation explains: “Originally LEGO made toys that were made to simply play with. We have found that many LEGO fans, of all ages, are nostalgic for historic LEGO products. So we started developping a new product that was a tribute to our past and also a great product to showcase our future.”

“The new concept also fits well in our ambitious sustainability goals. Without the building, there’s a lot less packaging material required. The absence of instruction booklets also makes a big difference. We expect to save 401 hectares of forest each year as this concept takes a more prominent place in our product range.”

With the anouncement of this concept we like to unveil the first 2 sets. These sets are closely matched to the City and Friends themes and will be a police car and an ambulance. Later this year we will extend the range with a police station, hospital and many more exciting new playsets.

LEGO Ready2Play will be available from June 1st.
