LEGO DC is returning in 2025 with at least a handful of sets. Included in the lineup is Superman Vs Lex Luthor, Batman Vs Mr Freeze and a new Tumbler. Unfortunately availability and prices haven’t been confirmed yet but we should see that nearer the suspected release window. From 19th March, the extremely fun LEGO DC Super Villains Game will be available completely free for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members. The PS4 version will be available, and playable on PS5 consoles, next week via the store, simply search for it and hit that download button.

This joins other LEGO games that are free to play (for members), such as LEGO Batman 3, LEGO Worlds and LEGO Jurassic World. Will you be downloading and playing any of the above games? Let us know via the comments section below.

Only 2 sets managed to get a perfect 10/10 score. The batman 1992 polybag and the Friends Botanical Garden set. And not without reason of course. Based on reactions online the Botanical Garden appealed to a lot of people that usually don’t pay attention to Friends. A few sets like the Mighty Bowser came close however.

One of the big hitter and perhaps most anticipated set is LEGO Spider-Man Final Battle (76261), which is inspired by the climax of Spider-Man: No Way Home and features all three Spider-Man variants!

Other sets included in the announcement are the Endgame Final Battle, Venomised Groot, Batmobile (revealed earlier today), Batwing and some 4+ themed sets.

The set is a little different to past incarnations in that it’s essentially a box, a plain and seemingly boring black box from the outside but swing it open and you’re presented with a fully fledged Batcave, complete with mountains of detail, and a ton of stickers.

This 3,981 piece set also comes with 7 Minifigures, Max Shreck, Catwoman, Bruce Wayne, Alfred, Penguin and 2 alternative Batman suits, one with a moulded Cape. There is even a Minifigure-scale BatMobile too!

When looking closer at the images you can see a lot of cool new technicques, the one that grabs my attention the most is the smaller Batsymbol, the use of curved bricks and slopes is genius.

NEW LEGO “BATMAN RETURNS” BATCAVE SHADOWBOX SET REVEALED

The LEGO Group announces its latest addition to the LEGO Batman Collection – the LEGO “Batman Returns” Batcave Shadow Box. An official collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products and DC, this highly detailed set combines beautiful display pieces with iconic iconography perfect forultimate Batman fans.

Based on the Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Batman Returns,” the set is incredibly detailed and features the full Batcave, inside a display box with a cutout in the shape of the iconic Batman emblem. At the heart of the set is the Caped Crusader’s Batmobile and, just like Batman’s Batcave, the set features clever functions and gadgets including the ability to move furniture, change images on the big screen, open a vault and open a door, and several light bricks.

In addition, the set comes with brand new minifigures of Catwoman and The Penguin, as well as various minifigures including Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth, and Max Shreck.

The new LEGO Batman Shadow Box set is available for LEGO VIPs from 5th June at LEGO.com/Batman and LEGO Stores. Available for all from 8th June 2023 priced at $449.99/€449.99/£344.99.

They include three new buildable characters and a small playset, inspirer by Marvel and DC characters. Joining Spider-Man and the recent Antman brick-built figures are Batman, Captain America and Wolverine. There is also  a brand new Avengers Infinity Saga set based on The Age of Ultron featuring Captain America and Black Widow.

The magazine itself follows suit with all its predecessors, with a ton of puzzles and activities, such as dice based games, mazes and word games. These are great fun for the intended younger fans, offering up a fun yet somewhat educational experience.

The double-sided poster as usual features great artwork and worthy of hanging onto for LEGO room decoration. Also the Comic-strip stories are great fun to read especially with young fans, they often feature characters that are included as freebies with each magazine Issue, this time around we get Batman and a Jet vehicle. The torso features the usual design which is mainly black with hints of grey and of course the yellow Batman logo. Unfortunately the legs are plain black, this could have been a great opportunity to add some printing and really make this Minifigure unique and special.

We also get a brick-built Jet vehicle, it features some nice parts that will no doubt go into my spares for future MOCs. The wings can be folded out or closed depending on the speed Batman is going, I presume. It’s a fun little build and a welcomed addition to the LEGO Batman collection.

LEGO Batman Special Edition Magazine Issue 26 can be picked up from most good newsagents and supermarkets, such as WHSmith, ASDA, Tesco and Sainsbury’s, to mention a few. If you can’t get to a store please don’t fret, they’re available online via a subscription service, they get delivered to your door!

The updated encyclopedia will feature more than 200 LEGO DC Minifigures along with fun facts and other information about the characters. Being a new edition means that all the recently released Minifigures found in LEGO DC sets will be included.

As usual with this type of book it’ll come complete with an exclusive Minifigure, making his first ever appearance, Val-Zod!

This will be the very first version of Val-Zod, which I’m sure DC Comic fans would love to get their hands on. The Minifigure itself looks very cool with his white Cape and matching suit. 

The Book will be available from May 2022 by DK Books.

As far as Superheroes go, be it Marvel or DC, I have two favourites, one from each comic giant. Marvel is of course Iron Man but when it comes to DC there’s only one clear choice and that’s Batman!

I’m a big fan of the newer incarnations of Batman with the likes of Christian Bale and Ben Afflect, yes that’s right I said Bat-fleck, his portrayal of the Caped Crusader is how I picture him being; big, brutish, and doesn’t back down. The warehouse scene in Batman Vs Superman is my all time favourite, the smack down he dishes out is incredible.

But anyway, where was I, ah yes the LEGO DC Batman Cowl (76182), that I picked up from an Amazon Daily Deal recently at a bargain price of just over £36, that’s a whopping saving of almost £20!

The box art has the now typical 18+ branding with its all black background and minimal design efforts I’m not grumbling however as I actually prefer this and think LEGO are really onto something here,itndoes state the piece count which is a decent 410 pieces. Flip the box around and you’ll see a couple of shots which inspired the Cowl and a measurement telling you just how tall it is, which is 22cm.

Within the box are three numbered bags and the instruction manual, as you’d expect.

The manual features a couple of pages dedicated to Batman, the character, and the LEGO designer of the LEGO Batman Cowl itself Junya Suzuki.

It’s a great little read and gives you an idea of how the design came about…

The team and I really wanted to create something that wasn’t specific to any one version, but still captured that unmistakable essence of Batman.

Great insight into the character and the design process

Bag one:

If you’ve built any of the other LEGO Helmets, or any LEGO set for that matter, you always start with constructing the base, it’s no different here and the display stand is built first.

There are two long Technic pieces that form the central support column and gives it that sturdy feel. The base itself tents to crumble somewhat if a tiny pressure is placed unevenly upon it, which is what happened twice to me whilst building.

The basis of the Cowl is also started here in bag one with a lot of SNOT (studs not on top) elements used, these will of course come into play later.

I like LEGO’s use of the window frames to build up the interior quicker, instead of upping the cost and using unnecessary bricks, wise move!

We seem to be flying through this set, but containing only three bags in total its hard not to.

Bag two has us build the sides and back of the Cowl, giving it that rounded head shape which involves a lot of plate layering.

It’s not too difficult and you’ll soon have both sides of the Cowl formed and stuck onto what you built in bag one.

The most interesting and enjoyable part of this bag was putting together the ears, being such an iconic shape and part of the character it was great to see them come together and finally added to the Cowl base.

Bag three:

Once the sides and back have been added we can crack open bag three and ultimately finish the set.

This bag focuses on building up the front and ‘face’ part of the Cowl, adding two large 2×4 white slopes where the eyes would be, the nose bridge, the mouth opening, and iconic frown.

There are multiple parts I love about this design, the nose shield has to be top of the list, it just works so incredibly well and looks cool from any angle. The ears are a close second, the way they’re built and again look is so cool, combining them with the rest of the set makes it a joy to behold and display iny collection! 

Bag three – finishing off the cowl

Conclusion:

Overall both the build and design of this set is stunning and I couldn’t ask for anything more, even the transparent opening I like, as I know a lot of fans have shared their disagreement with the way it’s been done and that it looks ‘weird’, I couldn’t disagree more and I actually love how it looks and works, it’s a Cowl after all, how morbid would it have been if they included a head inside!

The inclusion of the printed plaque is a nice touch and keeps in style with the previous Helmet releases.

Apart from the odd base crumble here & there I would say LEGO have out done themselves and captured the essence of Batman extremely well. If I had to pinpoint which incarnation of Batman it most resembles I’d have to say Christian Bale’s portrayal of him, purely because of the more slender look it gives off.

I for one cannot wait for the LEGO DC Classic TV Series Batman Cowl to become available and will of course be nabbing that as soon as possible!
