We had a look at the Mateo & Z-Blob The Robot and Mrs Castillo’s Turtle Van before. Today we have a look at the Dream Village (40567).

So how do we rate this set, is it a dream or a nightmare?

Part selection

The set consists of 419 parts. The part selection is not bad at all. Nothing extremely exciting, but a lot of standard plates and bricks. This makes it a rather versatile set for rebuilding and just getting creative with your LEGO. However, there are quite a few small 1×1’s. Almost a quarter of the parts falls into this category. There’s also a small sticker sheet with 4 stickers in total.

Minifigures

In this set we get Jayden, Dreamling Baker, Dreamling Blacksmith and Dreamling Wizard. Jayden is featured in 2 other sets. The Dreamlings share the same basic parts, but in this configuration they are unique to this set. Ì really like the Dreamling figures a lot, especially since they are designed to hold accessoires. Although, I must admit, the grimspawns are my favourites and it’s a shame none of these villains are included.

Build Process

The parts are divided into 5 numbered bags. Bag 1 and 2 contain the wizard’s building, bags 3 and 4 the bakery and bag 5 the blacksmith. The first 2 buildings consist of 2 modules that can also be used separately when making different configurations. The building techniques are rather straightforward, as can be expected from a 7+ set.

The instructions also feature a 2nd build option like all Dreamzzz sets do. There are no extra parts included however for this and it’s not really rebuilding, just instructions for another configuration.

Play Value

The set offers plenty of options for reconfiguration. A lot of thought has gone into placing clips and bars in the set so various modules can be connected to each other. With all the added weapons for the blacksmith and cakes for the bakery there’s plenty of fun included for kids!

Value For Money (LEGO RRP)

The set is sold exclusively through LEGO Brand Stores and the LEGO website. So you’ll probably won’t find a discount. The RRP is £25.99/$29.99/€29.99. And comparing this set to other sets with the same price (in the EU at least) like Creator 3-in-1 set 31143 Birdhouse or Friends set 41742 Cat Hotel, the Dream Village looks rather small and unsubstantial by comparison. Just looking at price per piece this might be hidden a bit when comparing the sets. But because all of the small 1×1’s that’s not really a good way to judge this set. This results in rather small builds. And for me, it just doesn’t feel like the price is justified. It’s a cute little set, but a price of €20 – €25 would be a better reflection of what you’re getting.

So these are our thoughts on this set, what do you think? Have you built this set as well? Are you planning to get it or not? Share your thoughts in the comments!

LEGO DreamZzz Mrs Castillo’s Turtle Van (71456) Review https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-dreamzzz-mrs-castillos-turtle-van-71456-review/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-dreamzzz-mrs-castillos-turtle-van-71456-review/#respond Mon, 04 Sep 2023 14:19:47 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=30667 The LEGO DreamZzz theme launched in August, has provided quite a few interesting sets. We had a look at the Mateo & Z-Blob The Robot set before, and today we’ll have a closer look at Mrs Castillo’s Turtle Van.

I bought this set for €30, however the Recommended Retail Price is €47.99/£42.99. The set contains 434 pieces.

In the box we find 5 numbered bags, a sticker sheet and booklet. The basic van build is really straight forward. There’s some SNOT building but other than that no compicated techniques. Therefore it’s a suitable set for kids used to LEGO vehicle building, the 7+ age range might be a bit on the cautious side. The extra building variations might just be the most complicated to build for young kids. The set uses a few stickers but isn’t too reliant on them. I really like the graphic design for them as well, especially the ‘taco turtle’.

This set contains some interesting parts. Some prints and recolours and some less than common like shown in the picture. Other than that the white and sand green colour scheme is always useful to get some extra parts in.

I love the DreamZzz minifigures. However there are some minor flaws with these. First of all, basic characters don’t get a variety in ‘outfit prints’. There’s some small differences in accesoires like cloth capes, uttility belt, slightly different back packs based on how expensive a set is. The Grimspawn has an unprinted body piece which makes it less interesting than other nightmare creatures. Z-Blob is in almost every DreamZzz set so if you get a couple from this wave you’ll soon have an army. If this is the only DreamZzz set you want to buy, you’re missing Izzie however, one of my favourites and I would have preferred her over Zoey. So no perfect 10 but the figures are still really good!

So first we complete the bassic version of the van. This will suit any (AFOL) LEGO City and can function as a food truck, surfer van or something like that. The inside of the van is rather empty however which is a bit of a shame.

After the basic version of the van we have a choice. We can follow 2 different instructions to modify the van to became the real turtle van. I really like this feature in all DreamZzz sets, stimulating building, creativity and play. Furthermore the sets have a few extra stickers that can be used to further personalize your build.

First we have the option for a ‘walking’ turtle (legs don’t move unfortunately). The turtle is motivateed with a turtle so we can call this the friendliest version.

The second option is a bit more extreme. The cactus cat gets a spike and flies around. The turtle is motivated with a chili pepper so this one is a bit more spicy!

Considering all of the above, I think this is a good set. There’s some room for improvement and the RRP of €47.99 is a bit too steep for what you get in my view. Either way the van should have had more of an interior or a lower price to have a good value for money. It is however not as horrible as some other sets like the recent Peter Pan diorama. So if you find a good deal I’d definitely recommend getting this one for yourself!

So these are my thoughts on this set, what do you think? Have you built this set as well? Are you planning to get it or not? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Closer Look At LEGO DreamZzz Turtle Van Make & Take And Promotional Polybag https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/closer-look-at-lego-dreamzzz-turtle-van-make-take-and-promotional-polybag/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/closer-look-at-lego-dreamzzz-turtle-van-make-take-and-promotional-polybag/#respond Sun, 06 Aug 2023 07:55:28 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=29857 Last Wednesday and Thursday (2nd & 3rd August) there was a LEGO DreamZzz Make & Take event at selected LEGO stores. Furthermore a local retailer was giving away the Blob And Bunchu Spider Escape (30636) Polybag. It was a good day for free LEGO!

Below is a closer look at both, including parts used and the final builds. The Turtle Van was especially nice to pickup. It is a great micro version of the Turtle Van set that was released August 1st. The parts on offer are nice with a couple of them being more sought-after than others, I’m looking at you Sand Green mudguards.

Being told by fellow AFOLs the LEGO DreamZzz polybag was also given away elsewhere was a nice surprise. I’ll get into the specifics of this one a bit more below. If rumours are correct these polybags are set to be a GWP from LEGO in the not too distant future. Thank you to LEGO and Intertoys for supplying these builds free of charge, we as fans really appreciate these giveaway products that allow us to dip our toes into the brand new DreamZzz theme.

LEGO DreamZzz Turtle Van Make & Take:

LEGO DreamZzz Blob And Bunchu Spider Escape (30636):

As some might notice there’s some exciting new parts in this polybag. The white horns, magenta domes, eye prints and figures are new for this wave.

When I’m looking at creating a polybag or smaller set, I really try to make them a useful addition to the rest of the sets in the wave or a good way to get some of our new characters. In this case, being a brand new theme with lots of new molds, colors, and characters, I really tried to make a good starter pack with as much new stuff as possible!

Theo Bonner, set designer

source: Brickset

There’s no minifigure included in this polybag, which is a bit of an odd choice for introducing the theme. Bunchu and Z-Blob look interesting however. So from a parts perspective this choice is a lot better than a minifigure. And the designer really achieved what he set out to do.

But to be honest, I have no idea what’s happening in this little set. The significance of the spider is lost on me. It looks to be designed to carry a chair on it’s back. But since I haven’t watched the series I have no clue if it’s meant like that. And is the side build for Bunchu meant like a spider web or something completely different? For iconic movie scenes I get that sets are designed to closely resemble a specific scene. For a brand new LEGO in-house theme however, it’s a bit weird.

For this review I looked back at some LEGO Movie polybags and how important the story was for those. I think these were a lot more self-explanatory. So let’s just say this polybag targets a very specific audience: kids who watched or want to watch the series. I’m being a bit of a boomer here, but relying this much on digital content is not something I’m a fan of. More screen time is not something I want a children’s toy to promote.

Other than nitpicking about that, I can’t really fault this set. It’s a fun and easy build, has quite a few nice parts and getting Bunchu and Z-Blob is also nice. And hey, who doesn’t love free LEGO?

New LEGO DreamZzz Promotional Sets Found! https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/new-lego-dreamzzz-promotional-sets-found/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/new-lego-dreamzzz-promotional-sets-found/#respond Sun, 23 Jul 2023 07:23:15 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=29450 Thanks to Brickset we got a look at two new LEGO DreamZzz promotional sets. According to the info from Brickset these were given away in LEGO DreamZzz goodie bags at San Diego Comic-Con 2023.

The sets are:

6485744 Z-Blob M&T

6485747 Bunshu M&T

There’s no info to suggest these will be given away at other occasions. However, with the right parts it should be fairly easy to build these just from the pictures.

Like we posted on Friday, there will be a different LEGO DreamZzz make&take set available in select UK & European stores. This event will take place August 2nd and 3rd.

CALLING ALL DREAMERS

The LEGO Group brings to life the limitless creative power of children’s dreams in its new theme, LEGO® DREAMZzz™

Step into the dream world with LEGO® DREAMZzz™, the first theme from the LEGO Group to be truly inspired by the way children dream, after research finds two in three children globally say dreaming helps them be more creative.

LEGO® DREAMZzz™ launches worldwide on May 15th, with new content episodes airing globally, and more exciting episodes and products to follow in August.

The LEGO Group is also launching a world-first opportunity to appoint a group of children as its first ever Chief Dream Creators, who will use the creativity and imagination of their dreams to inspire the company

The LEGO Group has today revealed LEGO® DREAMZzz™, an all-new theme that brings to life the creativity of children’s dreams through an epic new content series and product range.

New global research of over 23,000 children has found seven in 10 (69%) are experiencing complex emotions, such as stress or loneliness, in their day-to-day lives, with one in four (24%) citing events in the world or on social media as causes. However, sleep experts flag that dreams can play a key role in helping children process complex emotions and engage their imaginations. Children surveyed agree, with two thirds reporting that dreams are important and help them be more creative during the day (68%).

This passion for creativity has been brought to life in LEGO® DREAMZzz™, with the LEGO Group road-testing the content and toys with thousands of children from across the globe ahead of the new TV show launching May 15th. The launch will be followed by an accompanying product range, creating an incredible entertainment and play experience that puts children in the imagination-powered driving seat.

Step Into the Dream World: Introducing LEGO® DREAMZzz™

The LEGO® DREAMZzz™ series follows the adventures of school friends, Mateo, Izzie, Cooper, Logan and Zoey, as they join a secret agency and learn to use the power of imagination to journey into the Dream World – and learn to defeat the tyrannical Nightmare King!

LEGO® DREAMZzz™ will launch with 10 episodes on May 15th and be accompanied by a brand-new product range and further episodes from August 2023.

“LEGO® DREAMZzz™ is our very first concept that celebrates the wondrous world of dreaming and explores what happens when dreams become real, ordinary kids become extraordinary and creativity is a superpower!” said Cerim Manovi, Creative Director for LEGO® DREAMZzz™. “We want children to feel empowered to bring their wildest dreams to life and revel in the true force of their creative imaginations while dreaming – and this is just the beginning!”

Global Research Shows Importance of Dreaming for Creativity

LEGO® DREAMZzz™ was developed by the LEGO Group alongside in-depth global research of children aged 6-12 years old from 29 different countries. The survey looked at children’s imaginations, the psychology of dreams and their importance in processing emotions, problem-solving and the importance of play for creative experimentation.

The research revealed of those experiencing complex emotions, such as stress or loneliness, almost one in five (22%) report having more nightmares as a result. More than half of children (55%) say nightmares affect the rest of their day, including school, where the dream and real-worlds can evidently collide.

In fact, 63% report that the time they spend playing impacts their dreams. Most children (86%) experience positive emotions whilst dreaming, with many reporting they benefit from the after-effects once they’re awake. Around two thirds (68%) of children saying that happy dreams help them to be more creative in the daytime and almost the same amount (64%) think of ideas for when they’re awake.

Working with the LEGO Group on the research, psychologist and behavioural sleep expert Dr Shelby Harris, said; “Kids are natural dreamers and experimenters but as they get older, societal pressures begin to confine them and limit their imaginations. Dreaming is a universal phenomenon generally welcomed by children across the globe. With more stress and demands in their daily lives, encouraging free play and creativity is important in today’s world. The research has clearly shown that kids that have access to free play time increases their frequency of dreams and as a result makes them feel happier and more imaginative. It’s great to see content like LEGO® DREAMZzz™, which shows kids how the stuff of our dreams can be used in the real world to help them reach their full creative potential.”

Apply Now: Join the LEGO Group’s Team Of Chief Dream Creators!

To celebrate the launch of LEGO® DREAMZzz™, the LEGO Group will launch a world-first opportunity for children to become a Chief Dream Creator. The chosen participants will be flown to Denmark, home of the LEGO Group, to take part in several LEGO® DREAMZzz™ workshops.

As a Chief Dream Creator, the children’s role will be to champion the creativity of dreams within the company and spread the positive creative aspects dreaming can have for young people around the world.

Children aged between 6-12 years old will be encouraged to submit their own dream creation – a picture of either a LEGO build they’ve made themselves or a drawing – showing a creature or vehicle they have dreamt of that incorporates brick building. Their dream creation should be accompanied by a short description relaying what their creation is called, what it can do, and why it excited them in their dream.

Entry officially opens on May 20th to June 20th, and more information can be found at LEGO.com/dreamzzz.

Have Some LEGO Dreamzzz Sets Been Teased? https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/has-the-lego-dreamzzz-theme-been-teased/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/has-the-lego-dreamzzz-theme-been-teased/#respond Mon, 17 Apr 2023 14:29:15 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=26377 There is a new theme coming this year, LEGO Dreamzzz, but little is known about it and what the sets will look like, that is until the teasers dropped for the new Ninjago show, where members of the team have crazy dreams!

Published on YouTube today are 4 teasers that show off potential LEGO Dreamzzz sets, including a Car fused with a Crocodile. These dream sequences take place in the LEGO Ninjago universe, which doesn’t make sense to me as I’m not a huge fan. You can see Kai riding a Giant Blue Rabbit along with others from the Ninjago crew having dreams that feature more crazy creations.

Another hint that this could be the next big theme and its sets from LEGO is the Coming Soon page found on the LEGO website. If you type in the link presented, LEGO.com/Coming-Soon/, you’ll be presented with “Do you want to enter the dream world?”. Clicking on the “Enter” button will display a countdown, this points to 15th May, a potential theme and set release date.

Take a look at the teaser videos below and let us know what you make of it all via the comments section. Thanks to PromoBricks.de for the heads up!
