The idea comes from a portrait taken of 11 ironworkers casually eating lunch while sitting precariously on a steel beam 850 feet in the air captured the imagination of millions almost as soon as it was published in The New York Herald-Tribune on October 2, 1932.

The photo shows eleven men who are having lunch on a steel beam at a height of 260 meters (850 feet) above the ground. The surprising thing about this picture is that it’s real! – DallasBricks

I have yet to be enticed by an Art set from LEGO, not because they aren’t great, it’s more of a personal thing. We already have ‘A Starry Night‘ by Van Gogh, a Cityscape of Gotham City and a weird Abstract piece, but none have really grabbed me like today’s idea. The ‘Lunch Atop A Skyscraper’ brick-built recreation not only looks amazing, with its greyscale tones and forced perspective, it also can be hung or stood on display. Heck it could also be used as a sort of Minifigure display case, take the included Minifigures out and pop in your own.

The building in the background are made up of decorated tiles that look good from a distance.l, getting gradually smaller as they go back, or in this case up (to create a forced perspective). If LEGO were to make this set a reality then I hope these would be printed tiles rather than a thousand stickers. 11 Minifigures are included and sat atop of the brick-built girder tucking into their packed lunches.

On the back is a handy hook to allow for hanging, but as mentioned before the frame itself is substantially deep enough to stand on a shelf, giving you a choice of where to pop it.

Overall the idea and execution is perfect, you can’t ask for anything more from an LEGO Art set based on an iconic photograph. We would like to wish DallasBricks the best of luck in gaining the required 10k support. If you like the look of this idea and would like to give your support, please use the links below.
