Retrospect – Our Sets Of The Year Ranked! https://www.thebrickpost.com/blog/retrospect-our-sets-of-the-year-ranked/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/blog/retrospect-our-sets-of-the-year-ranked/#respond Sun, 31 Dec 2023 12:14:40 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=34314 In 2023 we published 48 LEGO set reviews on The Brick Post. This is not nearly every set LEGO released of course, but it gives an impression of the sets we liked most.

Our review panel consisting of Greg, BanthaToys, Boom Brickz, Brick McBricksworth, Brick Shed, Lets_Brick_It and myself had a thorough look and these were our verdicts!

Only 2 sets managed to get a perfect 10/10 score. The batman 1992 polybag and the Friends Botanical Garden set. And not without reason of course. Based on reactions online the Botanical Garden appealed to a lot of people that usually don’t pay attention to Friends. A few sets like the Mighty Bowser came close however.

LEGO Jurassic World Magazine Issue 9 – Alan Grand Minifigure And Fossil https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/lego-jurassic-world-magazine-issue-9-alan-grand-minifigure-and-fossil/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/lego-jurassic-world-magazine-issue-9-alan-grand-minifigure-and-fossil/#respond Wed, 20 Dec 2023 23:27:10 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=33995 The latest issue (9) of the LEGO Jurassic World Magazine is here and with it an Alan Grant Minifigure and fossilised Dinosaur build !

The magazine itself follows suit with all its predecessors, with a ton of puzzles and activities, such as dice based games, mazes and word games, there’s even a chance to win some LEGO. These are great fun for the intended younger fans, offering up a fun yet somewhat educational experience.

The double-sided poster as usual features great artwork and worthy of hanging onto for LEGO room decoration. Also the Comic-strip stories are great fun to read especially with young fans, they often feature characters that are included as freebies with each magazine issue, this time around we get an Alan Grant Minifigure and mini excavation site complete with Dinosaur bones.

Raking a closer look at the Minifigure we see the torso has some printing on it, the same as we see from only one, much larger and pricier set, Giganotosaurus & Therizinosaurus Attack (76949). Unfortunately the legs are plain grey and don’t have any additional marking on them. This is a very affordable way of picking up this Minifigure and adding him to the collection.

As well as the Minifigure we are also treated to a very cool side build in the form of an excavation site. The small but awesome build is an amazing addition to the Magazine, as it not only allows for great okay but also is an enjoyable thing to out together. With the small bones of the Dinosaur to the rock it’s buried in, it’s a smart side build.

Below are a handful of pages to showcase what these style of publications offer along with the Minifigure and build.

LEGO Jurassic World Magazine Issue 9 can be picked up from most good newsagents and supermarkets, such as WHSmithASDATesco and Sainsbury’s, to mention a few. If you can’t get to a store please don’t fret, they’re available online via a subscription service, they get delivered to your door!

LEGO Jurassic Park Dilophosaurus Ambush (76958) Review https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-jurassic-park-dilophosaurus-ambush-76958-review/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-jurassic-park-dilophosaurus-ambush-76958-review/#respond Fri, 16 Jun 2023 20:34:44 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=28403 The Jurassic Park and World lines of LEGO have proven to be popular time and time again, with the new wave of sets there is something for the classic fans with a handful of Jurassic Park sets to tickle your fancy. Taking inspiration from iconic scenes throughout the first movie, including “That’s one big pile of….” scene, the Visitors Centre complete with T-Rex and today’s review LEGO Jurassic Park Dilophosaurus Ambush (76958)!

What first grabbed my attention was the classic Jeep Wrangler, covered in JP related details and built in the two-tone red and grey colours. It’s got a canopy but that didn’t stop me from liking it, it’s still a JP Jeep after all and something I (including a lot of fans) have wanted for a long time.

If you’re interested in watching this set being built please head over to our Instagram account as it was used in one of our live streams.

The Box & Contents:

LEGO have produced new designs for the boxart and it looks very cool, with the mottled green and slashes of red. On the front is the set itself setup just as it was in the movie, with the Jeep stuck on some rocks, Dennis Nedry panicking and the Dilophosaurus ready to spit.

On the reverse you’ll see some playability features along with an alternative way to display the set. The roof of the Jeep pops off, the East Dock sign can be knocked over and spin Dennis’ head around and watch him get splatted.

Inside the box you’ll find the usual stuff, 2 numbered bags filled with LEGO, an instruction manual, small sticker sheet and a loose Dilophosaurus

The sticker sheet consists of 12 in total some with duplicate designs, including the vehicle identity number (12), muddy Minifigure footprints, vehicle bonnet and more. A sticker sheet in this reasonably priced set is fine by me, expecting prints in an entry level set is unrealistic.

The Build:

As smaller, entry level, builds go it’s a good one, quick but enjoyable. Starting off with the base of the Jeep, building up as you go, adding different coloured bricks that get hidden later on.

A lot gets added in the first bag, including the steps which both contain stickers that are different to each other. They have square Minifigure foot prints on them, I love when LEGO do this and add in small bit cool details.

Also inside the first bag is the Minifigure, but more on that later.

The second bag adds the finishing touches to the Jeep along with a small sign & foliage build. I must say that waiting so long for LEGO to finally make a Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler has been worth it, yes it has a canopy, but it’s a great little build and looks awesome sat on display.

Having a dark orange/tan canopy is useful though, you could always remove it and add your own frame work to create the other Jeep seen in Jurassic Park. I like how wide this vehicle is compared to the Visitor Jeep from the LEGO Trex Breakout set, it’s just so much more satisfying to hold and play with. Whizzing it across the table is fun and popping in the Minifigure really makes it for me.

The smaller sidebuild, the sign & foliage, is a nice little add-on, it truly is the icing on the cake. It’s a basic build but it doesn’t the trick, it even has the arrow sign the actually spins!

Being placed on a 2×2 jumper tile, the sign can be knocked off quite easily, which is good as the Jeep plows into and loosening the sign. Surrounded by foliage helps it to blend in and like I said is a great little sidebuild. We place the last couple of stickers here too, East Dock and the Arrow.

The Minifigure:

Included in the set is Dennis Nedry, the guy who gets spat on by the Dilophosaurus in the original scene.

I can confirm that this is indeed an exclusive Minifigure to this set making it a more appealing purchase. Along with the Jeep and the Dilophosaurus, you get a very cool and one of a kind Minifigure. Sure that have been others in the last but this is now & exclusive, get in!

It comes with two faces, one slightly panicked and the other covered in Dilophosaurus goo. Dressed in the same clothing as his onscreen counterpart, the bright yellow jacket, blue-grey fleece and plain trousers, the whole Minifigure looks a so stunning. LEGO have really pulled it out the bag with this one.

Overall the set is great and contains a lot of what fans are after, an iconic JP Jeep, a Dilophosaurus and of course a new and exclusive Minifigure.

Please let us know via the comments if you have this set and what you think of it, we’d love to hear from you. See below for the rating we have given it.

Life-sized Brick-built T-Rex To Promote Jurassic World Dominion! https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/life-sized-brick-built-t-rex-to-promote-jurassic-world-dominion/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/life-sized-brick-built-t-rex-to-promote-jurassic-world-dominion/#respond Sat, 07 May 2022 07:07:01 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=18386 As the release date draws closer for the third and final installment to the Jurassic World trilogy, the promotional side of things have kicked off, what better way to celebrate the movie than with a life-sized brick-built LEGO T-Rex!

Chris Pratt made an appearance on the Today Show in the US, but outside is where the amazing build could be seen, as it stood towering over the crowd. Coming in at just over 200,000 pieces, the build looks incredible and extremely detailed.

Although it wasn’t quite a while T-Rex, the effect and awe was still the same, as the head had burst through the Jurassic World Dominion logo, which was also brick-built.

At one point Chris Pratt genuinely got told off for climbing partially into the Dinosaurs mouth!
