LEGO Year Of The Rabbit (40575) GWP Review! https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-year-of-the-rabbit-40575-gwp-review/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-year-of-the-rabbit-40575-gwp-review/#respond Sun, 22 Jan 2023 17:16:13 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=24355 Every year LEGO produce a GWP (gift with purchase) set that encapsulates the Chinese New Year animal in brick form, previous sets have been great seeing Sheep, Rat, Roaster, Monkey, and so many more being added to the growing lineup.

This time it’s the Year of the Rabbit and LEGO haven’t disappointed, with a set that not only looks great but sits perfectly alongside the others.

I managed to bag this GWP set in-store recently whilst grabbing a few more of my January wishlist. The promotion ends 25th January, so if you haven’t got one yet and would like one you know what to do.

Here is my short but sweet review of this years Chinese New Year outing.

The Box & Contents:

Not ever having the pleasure of opening one of these GWP sets I was pleasantly surprised to find an Angpao pouch inside, usually a red paper/card wallet filled with money and gifted to family members during Chinese New Year, on the front we see the brick-built Rabbit and on the reverse is an embossed gold version of it.

Unlike other LEGO sets the bags inside are unnumbered, this is because the set is a tad on the small side and doesn’t warrant numbered bags, this is fine with me as the 3 bags don’t make to much of mess once tipped out onto the table.

Also inside is the instruction manual, again there isn’t much to it but it’s there and is needed. It uses the ‘no-frills‘ design that we see more and more nowadays, which as I’ve said many times I’m OK with.

The Build:

Starting off with the lower half of the Rabbit, building up the legs, body area and tail. The use of SNOT (studs not on top) elements to allow for slopes to smooth & finish off these areas is great as I personally can’t stand bare studs on a build like this.

Curved quarter tiles and reversed slope pieces are used to round off and create different angles that catch the eye. These are most prominent around the legs to define muscle shape and to tell you the Rabbit is sitting.

Building the head is a similar process, SNOT bricks inside finished off with black & white tiles. It attaches to the body by a small turntable piece, which allows it to rotate freely and pose.

The cute Rabbit sits on a small base made up of 2 half circle plates, a selection of foliage, and finished off with Gold tiles. Again there isn’t too much to this build but it does make the whole look good and it’s nice to have a wat to display the Rabbit.

Overall the set doesn’t offer anything new, unfortunately, but as we’ve come to expect these LEGO Chinese New Year sets are more than that and if you’ve collected the previous ones are a must have, the display potential is amazing.

The parts on offer are good but won’t grab the fancy of fans that part out for MOCs (my own creation). With a handful of black & white slopes and tiles there isn’t much else.

If you’d like one of these yourself please visit LEGO.com or your nearest LEGO store, the spend requirement of £80 ($85/€85) isn’t too bad.

Thank you for reading our review, please head down to the comments section to ask questions, we’re happy to help with any queries.

New Figs On The Block: Orange Brick Guy, Rock Star, Fisherman, Panda Guy and More! https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/new-figs-on-the-block-orange-brick-guy-rock-star-fisherman-panda-guy-and-more/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/new-figs-on-the-block-orange-brick-guy-rock-star-fisherman-panda-guy-and-more/#respond Fri, 13 Jan 2023 09:56:38 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=24115 2023 is off to a great start as the BaM (build a minifigure) Station introduces an eclectic mix of new parts and characters. The BaM station is fast becoming the place to grab these exciting LEGO characters and on quite a regular basis too!

The last lot that were available focused were Festive-themed and included a Mrs Claus, Gingerbread Lady, and a Guitar playing Boy in a Christmas jumper. Check them out here.

Thankfully my local store isn’t too far and I can pop in a few times during the month to check if new parts have been added, also joining several LEGO related Facebook Groups does help with keeping up-to-date with what is available. The new BaM characters have been released and are available in most stores Worldwide. We have given them random and made-up names so it’s easier to identify them, also the accessories can be switched for any you like. Here is a closer look at them:

Genders can be switched, colour combinations can be whatever you make them, and accessories can be random. Remember to have fun and enjoy your LEGO experience.

If you like the look of these characters they are available now at most Certified LEGO Stores, although I would recommend phoning ahead to confirm before heading in and even getting a pack or two put by for you to avoid disappointment. You can either make them yourself or some stores conveniently bundle them into packs and are often located near the till area.

Let us know in the comments what you think of these new Minifigures and whether you collect them or not, we love hearing from you.

The LEGO Group reveals its largest line-up of novelties inspired by Chinese culture at the CIIE

The Company continues to invest in China to bring LEGO® play to even more children and families

Study shows 93% of parents on China’s mainland seeing play as key in helping kids learn new things

The LEGO Group has revealed five new LEGO® sets with inspiration from Chinese culture and traditions at the 5th China International Import Expo (CIIE) today. This represents the fifth consecutive year that the company debuted novelties with rich Chinese elements at the expo.

All the five new sets will be available in China and other markets from December 25th, 2022. They are displayed at the 396-square-meter LEGO Playground (name of the LEGO Group booth at the CIIE) which is built to showcase the latest LEGO toy and educational products and celebrate the importance of play at the LEGO Group’s 90th anniversary.

Paul Huang, Senior Vice President of the LEGO Group and General Manager of LEGO China, said “As a five-year exhibitor, we are excited to continue bringing the creative and playful new LEGO sets inspired by local culture and traditions to Chinese consumers at the CIIE. We also want to invite people of all ages to play at our booth, because we believe in one simple mission; inspiring and developing the builders of tomorrow. We believe that play is crucial to the wellbeing and happiness of the whole family in the rapidly changing world.”

The LEGO® Play Well Study 2022* showed that there is increasing affinity of learning through play among Chinese parents and children, with 93% of parents on China’s mainland seeing play as key in helping kids learn new things and 96% of children said play helps them try new ideas and do new things.

The research also found that play’s benefits extend beyond children to the whole family, with 95% of Chinese parents saying play builds strong family bonds. 96% said play improves family happiness and welling, and 95% of them thought that play helps them relax as a family.

Continued strategic investments in China

The LEGO Group has been stepping up its investment in China over the past decade and achieved strong double-digit growth in recent years. It has been investing in building the brand, expanding retail presence, innovating its portfolio, driving sustainability progress, increasing manufacturing capacity and digitalization globally and in China.

It has opened over 380 LEGO brand retail stores in 105 cities across China compared with 60 stores in 18 cities in 2018. It announced expansions of its manufacturing capacity in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province in January 2022 to support long-term growth in the region.

“We feel humbled and proud of our achievements in China, especially during the past five years where we have seen our retail footprint expand to more than 100 cities. The resilience and vitality of the Chinese market, despite the pandemic, further strengthens our confidence in the prospects of the market and we will continue our strategic initiatives to bring LEGO® Play to even more Chinese children,” said Huang.

The LEGO Group plans to open another 80 new brand retail stores in China in 2023. It will also keep innovating retail experiences to create meaningful experiences at every touchpoint and enable shoppers and families to connect with the brand even closer.

Building a better future for children

The LEGO Group believes every child should have an opportunity to achieve their potential. And learning-through-play is a powerful way to develop skills that will allow children to tackle challenges that lie ahead.

The company also announced today a new strategic partnership with China Development Research Foundation to roll out a “Prescription for Play” program, aiming at supporting the development of parental and caregiver behaviors towards learning-through-play at homes. Through distributing play materials at local healthcare centers and providing caregivers with one-on-one guidance and instructions of parent-child play in Bijie City, Guizhou Province, it is expected that 250,000 children aged 18 to 48 months will benefit from the program in 2023.
