With the new Despicable Me 4 film out now in Cinemas, LEGO released a small wave of sets to coincide with it. Having seen the movie a couple of weeks ago with my two boys, I was able to recognise some of the sets from the movies. I am sure the Party Bus is featured briefly in the movie, when the Minions are taken to the Anti Villain League HQ and the usual mayhem ensues on route. This set doesn’t quite resemble the film version, but I am hoping in the future we get a couple more sets based off the film, particularly some of the flying vehicles.

The Build:

Having just built and reviewed the Barad-dûr set, this isn’t a difficult set to build when compared as it’s intended audience is 7+, although if you want to make it a challenge I’d suggest building with a very excitable 4 year old, who kept walking off with pieces and Minifigure!

There are four bags and with no printed pieces and the set relies on stickers. One really cool feature with one sticker is that it has a QR code on it that if scanned takes you to a short on the Lego Website for the bus.

The base of the bus is a mixture of technic and inverted pieces, together with green and pink tiles used to make the dance floor. A technic lift arm is used to assist structural stability to the middle of bus that allows it to be fully open, as well as the lights for the disco.

Within the bus we have a small swimming pool area with a cute little rubber duck and a sparsely filled drivers section with just a seat and steering wheel. As mentioned just now the bus can be fully opened up to reveal the inside, clips to lock these sections in place when you want to close it up and have it as a regular bus. There are also a couple of little side builds such as a guitar stand and keyboard.

The Minifigures:

For those of you that haven’t seen the movies there are 5 Mega Minions and this set has one of them in the form of Gus. There are also three regular Minions, one of which is included in the smaller set of this wave, the Banana Car. As with all Minion Minifigures, the torso and legs are all one piece with the head joining onto them in keeping with the “party theme” the Minions have various party headwear.

Gus is easily the best minifigure from this set, the head and torso are printed and come in a slightly different shade of yellow compared to the other Minifigures. The cape is molded into the head piece and isn’t a sperate piece. The other Minions have a variety of different head pieces to tell them apart with different hair styles and eyes.

There is a seat for the driver and I think one should have been included as the front of the bus looks empty with no driver.

The Price:

The price of this set is £34.99, which does feel a little overpriced to me as the build itself reminds me of the smaller LEGO City vehicle sets. When you compare against the recent Sightseeing Bus (60407) you’re paying £10 more but get the same number of Minifigures. I feel like a couple of extra Minions should have been included.

The Playability:

The bus opens up on one side so that you can see the dance floor and the disco area. The roof opens up too, giving access to the TV screens which have some cool stickers of Minion in various music poses.

LEGO Despicable Me 4 Minions Jetboard (30678) Polybag Review https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-despicable-me-4-minions-jetboard-30678-polybag-review/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-despicable-me-4-minions-jetboard-30678-polybag-review/#respond Sun, 12 May 2024 11:50:18 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=38268 A brand new Despicable Me 4 movie is just around the corner and that has inspired a handful of LEGO related sets to drop, including the Minions Jetboard (30678) polybag!

The set comprises of 48 pieces and construct a Jetboard vehicle, similar to an oversized skateboard, but with a jet engine attached. It’s a very small set with a handful of good parts, including two 1×3 jumper tiles, a large grey cone piece and so many more.

I sourced this Polybag from our affiliate, Brick-a-Brac-uk, who I’ve used for many years now. They stock all the latest releases and at very decent prices. They usually have a deal in, 3 Polybags for £10, which is great as you can always find what you want and more. We have an affiliate link too, which helps us here at The Brick Post to maintain the website and cover server costs.

The build itself is a Jetboard and works quite well, the wheels are especially loose, which is a good thing. Rolling the Jetboard along is effortless and it can really whizz. The build process is simple and even younger buders will find it easy.

The Minifigure is great too and most certainly the reason to pickup this Polybag. Putting together the Minifigure is fun too as it needs constructing just like the set itself. Unlike traditional Minifigures you’ll need to pop the arms on too. The details on the torso are really good too, the design and printing are sharp and really well done.

Overall this LEGO Polybag is well worth the money, especially if you take advantage of the Brick-a-Brac-uk deal of 3 for £10. Again using our link will bag you free postage when spending a certain amount and it also helps us out a great deal. Thank you.

Could LEGO Minions be postponed? https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/could-lego-minions-be-postponed/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/could-lego-minions-be-postponed/#respond Sat, 28 Mar 2020 08:06:24 +0000 http://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=2988 After a long line of films moving their release dates due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the Minions sequel is the first one in July to be postponed.

This in turn could and most likely would have a knock on effect with the LEGO Minions release date.

Shop@Home has only 2 of the sets listed, Brick-built Minions and their Lair and Unstoppable Bike Chase. This leaves 3 other sets that are yet to be listed.

Both the listed sets mentioned above still have an April 27th release, but who knows if that will change.

Promobricks reported that German retailers have been notified of an incoming change in release date but no fixed date has yet been set.

There has yet to be any official announcement of this and the UK store remains unchanged, but we expect LEGO Minions to follow suit with the film.

LEGO Minions 2020 Set details https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/lego-minions-2020-set-details/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/lego-minions-2020-set-details/#respond Wed, 05 Feb 2020 14:56:57 +0000 http://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=1861 A total of five LEGO Minions sets to be released in May 2020.

Set names and numbers:

  • 75546 Playground (4+) 87 € 19.99 May 2020
  • 75547 Airplane (4+) 199 € 29.99 May 2020
  • 75549 motorcycle 136 € 19.99 May 2020
  • 75550 temple 310 € 39.99 May 2020
  • 75551 Minions robot (3in1)

Two Minions 4+ sets, Gru’s motorcycle and a temple

The small 4+ set with the number 75546 includes a Minions minifigure, a playground with a slide and will be available in stores for 19.99 euros. The second 4+ set is a plane with two minions and costs 29.99 euros ( 75547 ).

The set with the number 75549 shows Gru’s motorcycle – in addition to Gru, two minions are included. The whole thing should cost 19.99 euros. The set 75550 , which looks like an Asian temple, is available for 39.99 euros . Here two LEGO Minions figures are part of the set scope.

Buildable Minion Robots (3in1)

Perhaps the most interesting LEGO Minions set is the set 75551 with three buildable Minions for 49.99 euros. The figures can also be built as Minion robots. The highlight: the robots can be opened and the minifigures can be placed inside. They control the robot, so to speak. The Robo-Minions are about 10 to 15 cm high and therefore slightly larger than, for example, the LEGO BrickHeadz

Images of the upcoming sets aren’t available yet, but we’ll keep you updated when they are.

Thanks to www.promobricks.de for the set details!

Once licensed by Mega Bloks, LEGO have now taken over in producing these wonderful characters in brick form. We can only speculate what kind of sets to expect, maybe something similar to the recently released Trolls sets? Bright, colourful and fun!
