LEGO Speed Champions NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 (76935) Review https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-speed-champions-nascar-next-gen-chevrolet-camaro-zl1-76935-review/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-speed-champions-nascar-next-gen-chevrolet-camaro-zl1-76935-review/#respond Tue, 27 Aug 2024 10:58:11 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=41500 When it comes to Cars, in real-life, I have no idea what is what, what goes where and so on, the same can also be said for LEGO Cars. I tend to only grab Speed Champions sets when a vehicle comes along that I really like the look of, the Lamborghini Countach, Ford Dark Mustang and other beasts. When I first saw the LEGO Speed Champions NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 (76935) set, I thought “now that looks cool, I’ll grab that when is drops“, so here is my review of perhaps the most colourful car in the LEGO lineup!

The Box & Contents:

The box art is just as colourful and features the multicoloured car racing along a very grey NASCAR track. The usual details can be found in the front, including theme logo, NASCAR Logo, age rating, title and number. On the reverse are a few different shots of the vehicle, again racing around the oval track, there’s even a shot of the drivers set and interior.

Inside the box are 5 numbered plastic bags, sadly no paper bags insight, 2 sticker sheets and an instruction manual. As you can see each bag is filled with brightly coloured pieces, purples, yellows and reals. The amount of parts in each bag is lower and spread out over the 5 bags, making for a seemingly quicker build experience, although it did take me over an hour to build live on Instagram.

The Build:

Starting with the base, as usual, adding part of the bonnet and some interior pieces such as gearstick, drivers seat and a basic dashboard. The second bag adds to that by building up the front of the car and adding some of the stickers, the flames look especially badass. Bag 3 sees the sides built up a little more along with the mid-section. Bag 4 is the largest of the 5 bags and makes good progress on the rear of the car, adding the spoiler and curved roof.

The fifth and final bag obviously finishes the set off, adding the windscreen, wheels and the last of the stickers. The wheels look especially cool with the clip on covers that say the make & model of the car. Overall the NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 set looks stunning and the use of the stickers is great, at first I thought it may have been too overpowering having all those colours together, but it works. Some of the stickers could lineup better but this could be a placement thing, as the flames are broken by the black tile underneath showing through.

There is also a Minifigure included with the set, more on him below.

The Minifigure:

As Minifigures go this one suits the set but that’s about it, he’s a pretty generic character, apart from the printed torso. The hair is a standard piece, the face is very lacklustre and the spanner accessory is pretty much the goto for LEGO Speed Champions sets.

As mentioned above the only real exclusive part is the torso, which in itself is great with the NASCAR logo slap-bang in the centre. The purple legs are a nice addition to although plain, it is the same colour as the purple Spaceman Minifigure. Also included as a matching purple helmet, I love it when LEGO supply both that and a hair piece, giving you an option of how to display the Minifigure.

Overall the set is good, the NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is the Star of the show, obviously. The bright colours, the shape, the techniques used for the front all help make it a great build. Using a wheel arch on the bonnet is genius and creates such a cool look, it surrounds a monochrome USA flag which is fully printed, 1of only 2 printed parts in the whole set (the logo on the side of a 1×2 black plate).

Do I recommend this set? Yes I do but for only those that appreciate these types of vehicles or the awesome colours used throughout. For the price tag of £20.99, it is worth the money, in my honest opinion. Who’ll you be grabbing this set? Do you already have it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

They include two double packs and a standalone single car. Fans of Lamborghini, Mercedes and Aston Martin are in for a treat as these are this waves selected cars. I must say the double Mercedes pack tickles my fancy, the black wagon in particular.

These will drop the same time as the other Summer sets, 1st August.

It’s Lights Out… LEGO Unveils Racing Collection https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/its-lights-out-lego-unveils-racing-collection/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/its-lights-out-lego-unveils-racing-collection/#respond Thu, 01 Feb 2024 14:55:21 +0000 https://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=35314 With the F1 world being stunned by some spectacular driver rumours, it’s on this day LEGO is unveiling some awesome F1 themed sets. The sets will be spread over multiple themes, Icons, Technic and of course also Speed Champions. The sets are in partnership with McLaren, The Senna Foundation, and Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS and will be releasing as part of the March 2024 wave of new sets.

McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna (10330)

This might just be the most popular F1 set LEGO has done so far. Before Max Verstappen broke the records in 2023 the 1988 Mclaren MP4/4 was the most succesful car in F1 history. Driven by Ayrton Senna (3x World Champion) and Alain Prost (4x World Champion). So it is only fitting this car is treated like this with an amazing Icons display set. I would have liked figures for both drivers included however.

Another fun easter egg is how the colours of Senna’s helmet design are incorporated on the inside of the sidepods. The set consists of 693 pieces and will have a RRP of $/€79.99

2023 McLaren Formula 1 Car (76919)

With the long standing partnership between LEGO and McLaren it’s no surprise a recent F1 car from the team is coming to Speed Champions. The driver gets a nice Mclaren logo printed but there’s no specific mention of this being either Norris or Piastri. They both did well in the car so that shouldn’t really matter. Being a Speed Champions set there is the traditional sticker overdose, which is a bit of a shame. On the bright side there are some nice part usages like the spoons for mirrors. With the tiny mirrors and dazzling speeds this might be considered a quite fitting choice, since drivers don’t really get much use out of them anyways.

The set consists of 245 pieces and will be sold for £20.99/$26.99/€26.99.

Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 Pull-Back (42165)

This will be the first time LEGO releases a F1 model that will be faster than the original. I’m not being a hater but drivers and management have been very harsh about the speed of this car themselves, it’s a surprise it gets not 1 but 2 LEGO Technic sets. It is a recent car that still got second in the championship, but to have 1 or both of the Mercedes sets based on a different year and car would have made sense. You want to celebrate your dominant years, not the hard times. Still the models look quite fun, with this pull-back car being a nice toy as well. The pull-back set will consist of 240 pieces and have a RRP of £20.99/$26.99/ €26.99.

Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance (42171)

So this is a more detailed version of the car above. This is reflected in a piece count of 1.642 with a price of £189.99/$219.99/€219.99.

Even a detailed model of a V6 engine is part of this build, including a quite realistic suspension.

BMW M4 GT3 & BMW M Hybrid V8 Race Cars (76922)

After all the F1 announcements we get some endurance racecars as well, with the current WEC/IMSA BMW Hypercar and GT3 in one set. Like the other speed Champions set, this has two unnamed drivers. This set will consist of 676 pieces and will be on the shelves for £44.99/$44.99/€49.99.
