The magazine itself is chock-full of puzzles and activities, such as dice based games and mazes. These are great fun for the intended younger fans, offering up a fun yet experience that’ll pass the time.

A fun addition to this magazine, and others in the LEGO family, are the comic book stories, usually centred around the character that comes stuck to the front cover. Obviously Luke Skywalker is going to be in it with a new story revolving around him and his friends.

In every issue, no matter what theme it is, you’ll find a poster or two, in this latest outing the double-sided poster features Darth Vader himself along with his ride and his crib, on the other side is a Rebel Pilot with a cocky grin.

I personally keep the posters safe in a folder ready to hang when I finally get a LEGO room big enough to hang them. Do you keep them? Let me know in the comments below.

Included in this issue is a Minifigure, but not just any Minifigure, it’s Luke Skywalker in his Hoth/Snow gear!

This isn’t exactly an exclusive Minifigure as it was in the recent LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar, but seeing as how that set has essentially now been discontinued, the Magazine is the only ly place to get hold of it.

As always these Magazines allow you to grab rare Minifigures at a more affordable price, which I’m all for, bring on the next character.

Luke comes with two facial expressions, one with a small angry smirk the other is a more happy one. The tan hat piece is great too complete with white visor. His torso and leg prints match up well and the designs look fantastic, finishing the character off nicely. The icing on the cake is definitely the Lightsaber, complete with shiny hilt.

Most of these LEGO Magazines are worth picking up especially if they come with a rare Minifigure. Watch this space for all the latest LEGO news and reviews. LEGO Star Wars Magazine Issue 68! https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-star-wars-magazine-issue-68/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-star-wars-magazine-issue-68/#comments Sat, 13 Feb 2021 16:38:26 +0000 http://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=8928 The LEGO Star Wars magazines are always a highlight of mine, not only as a reader picking up the latest copy and finding out which characters will appear in the comic stories, or in fact the accompanying freebie, it’s actually sitting down to show and tell you what you’ll find within each issue!

Being the 68th issue you’d think by now that most stories and activities have been done to death already, and that would apply to the freebies – I can safely say that isn’t the case, and most likely never will be. I agree that most of the puzzles and games you’ll find on the pages contained within are indeed similar or based on the same premise, albeit with a few simple alterations.

You’ll find the usual mazes, wordsearch, and either a picture to colour or something you cut-out and craft.

This particular issue has something that I’ve not seen in a while, you’ll need to grab a few bricks from your personal collection, basically you need to build simple shapes in order to progress through the puzzle, which in my opinion is great and helps younger fans with joining bricks and learning new skills.

I most look forward to sharing the comic strip stories with my Son (5) who loves to learn more about Star Wars and LEGO combined. The first story focuses on the Dark Lord himself, Darth Vader, and his new secret project, which, without saying to much and spoiling it, involves Vader with a camcorder and an hilarious set of events and hiccups. Definitely worth the read!

The second comic strip, located towards the second half of the Magazine, revolves around a small group of Mandalorians and what they get up to when they aren’t bounty hunting.

It’s so good to see that the Mandalorians are getting some sort of spotlight here, as apart from the hit TV show (The Mandalorian) and of course the infamous Boba Fett, Mandalorians are somewhat mysterious.

There are a couple of pages based on a random LEGO Star Wars set, that shares details, features, and Minifigures unique to that particular set. This issue sees the spotlight shine on a somewhat wildly disliked set, LEGO Star Wars Knights of Ren Transport Ship (75284). No having this set I can’t say but it does look reasonably well designed and the Minifigures are great. I don’t think I’d rush out to purchase it based on what I learnt here though.

My Son doesn’t usually bother with the activity on the back cover, over the last few issues there have been bedroom door signs or a pairs/matching game. This issue we get four Mandalorian and Grogu (The Child) postcards, which I must admit do look pretty decent.

My Son had the idea of writing short messages on each and sending them to his close friends, which he sadly can’t see or visit due to the current Covid-19 lockdown restrictions. I would like to think the LEGO had the very same thought process as my Son and with the lack of outside Human interaction included these postcards with that very purpose in mind, who knows, but thank you LEGO anhway for thos awesome idea!

The included freebie, which happens to be a Mandalorian, is also a welcomed addition and never before seen attached to a magazine.

Unfortunately the Minifigure isn’t exclusive in anyway as we have previously seen it in last Years LEGO Mandalorian Battle Pack. The only difference is that an actual Blaster piece is included, unlike the aforementioned Battle Pack and those hideous stud shooters!

The Minifigure itself is great and looks cool, with the helmet, torso, and leg printing. I really like the combination of colours used and makes for a more diverse collection of Mandalorians.

Looking at this purely from a price point of view it is considerably more then if you had purchased and split the Battle Pack, which retails at £12.99, when dividing the cost between the four Minifigures and small builds.

For parents looking to gift this to their child to expand their collection it’s a fantastic way to keep costs down if just the one Mandalorian Minifigure is required. Retailing at £3.99 it’s not going to break the bank as such.

As with every Mandalorian Minifigure the head piece is blank, because we all know a Mandalorian never shows their face!

With all that being said it is still a gorgeous addition to the ever growing collection and a truly welcomed freebie, it definitely beats receiving another Tie Fighter or Flame Trooper 😉

LEGO Star Wars Magazine Issue 65 – Bespin Luke! https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-star-wars-magazine-issue-65-bespin-luke/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-star-wars-magazine-issue-65-bespin-luke/#respond Wed, 18 Nov 2020 14:19:20 +0000 http://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=7109 Finally this Magazine (LEGO Star Wars Issue 65) is available here in the UK. We first heard about this particular freebie a month or so ago from various sources around Europe, for some reason they get released there first, and we have been waiting very patiently for the 18th November release date.

Front cover

I pass a newsagents on the way to work and planned to pop in just as they opened. The owner had put one by for me so I knew there was one waiting. I would like to advise against buying more than one, two maximum, to allow Children and other collectors the chance to grab a great magazine and exclusive Minifigure, thank you.

The Magazine:

As always the Magazine remains relatively the same across the board, with puzzles, a maze, two comic stories, and some featured set images.

The first comic story features some classic character appearances from Greedo, Jabba the Hutt, and Han Solo & Chewie!

As always the comics are a great read and expand on the Star Wars Universe we know & love.

Comic featuring Greedo, Han Solo & Chewie, and Jabba!

The second comic story stars the freebie Minifigure that’s included with this issue, Luke Skywalker. If tells the short story of Luke Skywalker on a mission to rescue Han & Leia and getting distracted trying to find a suitable change of clothes. He later runs into his Father, Darth Vader… To be continued!

When Luke met Vader

Each puzzle/game is unique and are quite enjoyable to play with a younger LEGO fan. Included in this issue are a handful of mazes, crossword, spot-the-difference, pairs/match, and a turn based dice game that looks very interesting.

Rendezvous on Tatooine

The posters are very collectable too, well in my house they are, with this issue being even more so as it features The Mandalorian and The Child!

This is most definitely the way!

The other side isn’t too shabby either as it depicts the recent UCS A-Wing Starfighter blasting throu outer Space.

Blast off!

The Minifigure:

Now for the main event, the main attraction, the LEGO Luke Skywalker Minifigure with his exclusive Bespin print!

Let me out!

We first saw this combination of parts in the LEGO Betrayal at Cloud City (75222) set shortly followed by the extremely rare and sought-after LEGO Bespin Duel (75294) set. It has taunted many, even some US fans, that weren’t lucky enough to get ahold of the LEGO Bespin Duel Comic Con exclusive.

Having such an in demand and relatively expensive Minifigure attached to a cheap & cheerful magazine is a great way to get it out to the masses and the ones that originally missed out. LEGO may have heard many AFOLs cryout for more exclusives in their magazines, I would like to think that was the case, but we shall see in future issues if we’re graced with more or is this a one off, who knows.

Alternative faces and printing

Having alternative faces is always a good thing, it opens the Minifigure up to more possibilities in photography and play. Luke Skywalker sports a somewhat confident smirk on one side and a blackeye and shocked look on the other.

Two faced

The printing is again outstanding by LEGO and their design team never disappoints. From the crisp lines of the pockets and belt to the detail round the blackeye.

I particularly like the rusted areas and clip accessories on the belt. There is even substantial printing on the back, with two belt bags/pockets and crease lines.

Torso, front & back

Luke Skywalker comes complete with his Lightsaber and Blaster which compliments and pads out the otherwise small foil bag.

Luke Skywalker

With regards to the cost of this particular issue it stands at a very reasonable £3.99, which is great in itself but to come packed with great magazine content and a very exclusive Minifigure is beyond amazing, it truly is well priced and definitely a bargain!

Next issue:

As always the freebie is announced that comes with the next issue. It’s another Jedi Interceptor, this time we get treated to Obi-Wan’s ride. This issue lands in stores 16th December.

Sweet ride!

What do you make of this issue, will you be rushing out to grab a copy? Does it live upto the hype? Let us know in the comments below. Don’t forget to give it a ‘reaction’ using our custom LEGO head emots.

LEGO Star Wars Magazine Issue 61 – AT-AT Walker Freebie! https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-star-wars-magazine-issue-61-at-at-walker-freebie/ https://www.thebrickpost.com/reviews/lego-star-wars-magazine-issue-61-at-at-walker-freebie/#respond Thu, 16 Jul 2020 10:25:50 +0000 http://www.thebrickpost.com/?p=5034 I don’t usually buy many magazines, even when LEGO is plastered all over it, but the odd one does come around that I just can’t refuse – The LEGO Star Wars issues!

Issue 61 front cover

They seem to be somewhat aloof when it comes to a release date. You have to check your local newsagents often in hopes of spotting them. But when you do they rarely disappoint.

The Freebie:

Issue 61’s freebie is a decent sized AT-AT Walker, consisting of 51 pieces. Being an AT-AT, the bricks are all grey, with the one exception of a transparent clear stud holder which acts as the neck joint.

Foil bag contents

Like I said above it is quite a good size and one of the slightly taller mini-builds we have gotten lately. The build is enjoyable and uses some SNOT pieces to add details.

AT-AT Walker

From certain angles it looks absolutely stunning, but from others it looks ugly, lanky and clumsy. The legs do look a tad long from those angles and positioning them is a task in itself, making sure it looks good.

Head-on view

It looks worse from behind, the bare open plates don’t work well here, it just emphasises the spindly legs and joints.

From behind

The clear piece used for the neck joint is the one used in many Marvel sets for Minifigures to hold webs and weapons etc. It does a good job in joining the head to the body but as far as turning angles go it’s terrible. I know AT-ATs don’t have a good head tilt in the films but this LEGO mini-build has barely any.

Closeup

Saying all that I do still like this model, mainly for it’s MOC potential. I may attempt to create an Hoth/Endor scene to plop this little guy into.

The Magazine:

There seems to be less & less to say about the Magazine itself without repeating myself each time. You get the same contents as all the other Magazines in the series, City, Friends, Batman and so on.

Two comic strip stories, one is focused on Han Solo with Boba Fett popping up throughout.

LEGO Comic

A handful of puzzles to complete and mazes to get through. Great for the little ones to have a go at!

There is one thing I really like about the Magazines and that is the included posters. I always carefully remove them, no matter what the subject, and keep them in a folder just incase one day I find a use for them. The art work has always appealed to me and this issues poster is most definitely a keeper – It’s a Stormtrooper!

LEGO Stormtrooper Poster

As these posters are double sided you get a choice of which one to display. The altenate side features Kylo Ren and Rey, facing off in an epic Lightsaber battle!

Ren Vs Rey!

Conclusion:

Another great addition to the LEGO Star Wars Magazine range. Being issue 61 I feel as though they either need to spice it up a little and give us an exclusive Minifigure or stop for a year or so to start fresh.

The Mini-Build is nothing special and looks a little odd. The use of the grey bricks is good and works as a build in itself. Great for MOCs!

I will always keep an eye for these magazines and the freebie included. Next Issue we get a Stormtrooper Minifigure which does in fact look great, the helmet in particular really looks awesome, definitely a must get!
